Cloning and characterization of zebrafish smad2, smad3 and smad4
Gene, 2000smad genes encode transcription factors involved in the signal transduction of members of the TGFbeta superfamily. We report here the cloning, characterization and genomic mapping of smad2, smad3 and smad4 from the zebrafish, Danio rerio. In Xenopus, smad2 overexpression has been shown to interfere with gastrulation and dorsal cell fate specification ...

GDF15 enhances proliferation of aged chondrocytes by phosphorylating SMAD2
Journal of Orthopaedic Science, 2022Aging is one of the primary factors influencing development of osteoarthritis, and the TGF-β pathway plays an important role in age-related osteoarthritis. Specifically, GDF15 phosphorylates SMAD2/3 in the TGF-β pathway to inhibit cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, and promote proliferation of chondrocytes.

FBLN1 promotes chondrocyte proliferation by increasing phosphorylation of Smad2
Journal of Orthopaedic Science, 2022The role of fibulin-1 or FBLN1 in chondrocyte proliferation has not been reported so far. In this study, we aimed to verify whether FBLN1 promotes chondrocyte proliferation in elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis by phosphorylating Smad2.Chondrocytes were isolated from cartilage samples collected from elderly patients with osteoarthritis (n = 6 ...

[Effect of TIEG-siRNA on Smad2, p-smad2 and collagen IV in diabetic nephropathy].
Zhonghua yi xue za zhi, 2011To investigate the effect of TIEG-siRNA on Smad2, p-smad2 and collagen IV in diabetic nephropathy rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ).Ten Sprague-Dawley rats injected with STZ were randomly divided into TIEG-siRNA and Control groups. Other five normal rats were used as control.

Regulators of Smad2/3 Transcription and Phosphorylation
2008Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) is a multifunctional cytokine that controls a wide variety of cellular processes, such as cell migration, adhesion, differentiation, proliferation, and cell death. Disruption of components of the TGF-β signaling pathway is associated with human diseases, including cancer.

Expression and localization of Smad2 and Smad4 proteins in the porcine ovary
Acta Histochemica, 2014The objective of the present study was to investigate the temporal and spatial expression of Smad2 and Smad4 proteins, the downstream signaling molecules of the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) superfamily, in the porcine ovary. Cellular localization of Smad2 and Smad4 proteins was examined using immunohistochemistry.
