Final Report on the Safety Assessment of Sodium Iodate

Journal of the American College of Toxicology, 1995
Sodium Iodate is an inorganic salt that is intended for use as an oxidizing agent in cosmetics, but no current uses have been reported. It is approved by the European Union for use as a preservative in rinse-off cosmetic products at concentrations no greater than 0.1%. Pure Sodium Iodate is a sufficiently strong oxidizing agent that it presents a fire

The protective effects of beta-mangostin against sodium iodate-induced retinal ROS-mediated apoptosis through MEK/ERK and p53 signaling pathways.

Food & Function, 2023
Previous studies have indicated that NaIO3 induces intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and has been used as a model for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) due to the selective retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell damage it induces.

Intraaxonal iodate inhibits sodium inactivation

Experientia, 1974

Lycii Fructus and Chrysanthemum Flos, a Chinese medicine herbal pair, ameliorates retinal degeneration of mice induced by sodium iodate and protects Müller cells from oxidative stress.

Journal of Ethnopharmacology
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE The combination of Lycii Fructus (LF) and Chrysanthemum Flos (CF) is a well-known herbal pair utilized in Chinese medicine for the treatment of retinal degeneration diseases commonly found in the elderly, such as age ...

Therapeutic effects of human adipose mesenchymal stem cells and their paracrine agents on sodium iodate induced retinal degeneration in rats.

Life Science, 2022
AIMS The degeneration of retinal neurons which occurs in many neurodegenerative diseases of retina such as retinitis pigmentosa and aged-related macular degeneration, is a progressive phenomenon and leads to permanent visual disability.

The crystal structure of sodium and ammonium iodate

Recueil des Travaux Chimiques des Pays-Bas, 1943
AbstractSodium iodate, described in the literature as an antiperovskite, has a coordination structure of sodium and iodate ions in deformed caesium chloride packing. The iodate ions have a pyramidal shape. Ammonium iodate, generally regarded as a true perovskite, very probably has the same structure.

PYGM downregulates necroptosis signaling to attenuate sodium iodate-induced RPE cell degeneration.

Cellular Signalling
BACKGROUND Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) causes incurable vision loss in elderly individuals, and there is currently only a rarely effective treatment for dry AMD. Necroptosis is attracting increasing attention in the context of AMD.

Effects of Sodium Iodate on Experimental Subretinal Neovascularization in the Primate

Ophthalmologica, 2010
We investigated the role of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in the development of subretinal neovascularization (SRN) induced by bilateral laser photocoagulation of the retinas in monkeys. RPE function was affected by a unilateral carotid injection of sodium iodate, a selective RPE toxin, before laser photocoagulation.

Sodium-iodate injection can replicate retinal and choroid degeneration in pigmented mice: Using multimodal imaging and label-free quantitative proteomics analysis.

Experimental Eye Research
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of irreversible visual loss in the elderly population. Sodium iodate (NaIO3), a stable oxidizing agent, has been injected to establish a reproducible model of oxidative stress-induced RPE and ...
