Retinal degeneration rat model: A study on the structural and functional changes in the retina following injection of sodium iodate [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2019
Retinal disorders account for a large proportion of ocular disorders that can lead to visual impairment or blindness, and yet our limited knowledge in the pathogenesis and choice of appropriate animal models for new treatment modalities may contribute to

The Effect of Sodium Iodate and Melanin on the Formation of Glyoxylate

Pigment Cell & Melanoma Research, 1992
Sodium iodate damages retinal pigment epithelium specifically, but the reason for this specificity is not well understood. The work reported here describes an effect of sodium iodate on melanin, a major component of the retinal pigment epithelium. Sodium iodate increases the ability of melanin to convert glycine to glyoxylate.

Intraaxonal iodate inhibits sodium inactivation

Experientia, 1974

The crystal structure of sodium and ammonium iodate

Recueil des Travaux Chimiques des Pays-Bas, 1943
AbstractSodium iodate, described in the literature as an antiperovskite, has a coordination structure of sodium and iodate ions in deformed caesium chloride packing. The iodate ions have a pyramidal shape. Ammonium iodate, generally regarded as a true perovskite, very probably has the same structure.

Effects of Sodium Iodate on Experimental Subretinal Neovascularization in the Primate

Ophthalmologica, 2010
We investigated the role of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in the development of subretinal neovascularization (SRN) induced by bilateral laser photocoagulation of the retinas in monkeys. RPE function was affected by a unilateral carotid injection of sodium iodate, a selective RPE toxin, before laser photocoagulation.
