An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Students’ and Instructors’ Perceptions of Five Different Active Learning Strategies Used to Teach Software Modeling

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Unified modeling language (UML) is a modeling standard in the software industry. However, students face difficulties when learning how to model complete and correct UML diagrams, in part because the traditional teacher-centered approach still dominates ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Experimental Evaluation of Using Gamification in Software Engineering Education in Software Requirements

open access: yesCLEI Electronic Journal
Education in Software Engineering traditionally focuses on techniques used in the classroom that generate stress and disinterest in the topics taught; therefore, a significant challenge to the use of more effective and motivating teaching methods to ...

Web Engineering as a Specialization of Software Engineering: Differences in Project Management Education [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics, 2005
We present the motivation and our concept of introducing "Web Engineering" as a specialization of our "Software Engineering" curriculum. Our main focus lies on the differences in project management education for both areas as well as the necessary ...
