Super-geometric electron focusing on the hexagonal Fermi surface of PdCoO2

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Ballistic electron beams in clean metals can be focused by passing currents through well designed contraptions, which is mostly done in isotropic materials described by a circular Fermi surface.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Concurrence of directional Kondo transport and incommensurate magnetic order in the layered material AgCrSe2

open access: yesCommunications Physics
In this work, we report on the concurrent emergence of the directional Kondo behavior and incommensurate magnetic ordering in a layered material. We employ temperature- and magnetic field-dependent resistivity measurements, susceptibility measurements ...

Coulomb interactions in high-coherence femtosecond electron pulses from tip emitters

open access: yesStructural Dynamics, 2019
Tip-based photoemission electron sources offer unique properties for ultrafast imaging, diffraction, and spectroscopy experiments with highly coherent few-electron pulses.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Orbital selective commensurate modulations of the local density of states in ScV6Sn6 probed by nuclear spins

open access: yesNature Communications
The kagome network is a unique platform that harbors a diversity of special electronic states due to its inherent band structure features comprising Dirac cones, van Hove singularities, and flat bands. Some kagome-based metals have recently been found to

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Direct observation of V-trimers in the crystal structure of LiVO2

open access: yesCommunications Chemistry
Although a trimerized ground state has been predicted for LiVO2 for over half a century, the direct determination of its crystal structure in the trimerized phase by X-ray diffraction remains elusive.

Resonant torsion magnetometry in anisotropic quantum materials

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Insights into the behavior of quantum materials are only possible because of the development of suitable experimental probes. Modic et. al. develop the theoretical and experimental basis for resonant torsion magnetometry—a technique to measure ...
