TREATMENT GUIDELINES FOR HYPERCHOLESTEROLAEMIA: TIME TO CONSIDER SOLUBLE FIBRE

open access: yesInternational Journal of Clinical Practice, 1999
SUMMARYLowering raised serum cholesterol levels is firmly established as an effective intervention for reducing the mortality and morbidity due to coronary heart disease (CHD). Recent European and British guidelines for the management of hypercholesterolaemia recommend dietary modification as first‐line therapy.

Barley fibre and wet distillers’ solubles in the diet of growing cattle

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 1998
Twenty-eight bulls were used in a 3 x 2 factorial design to study the effects of two by-products from the integrated starch-ethanol process, barley fibre and distillers’ solubles, as supplements for grass silage. The animals were divided into five blocks and slaughtered when the average live weight (LW) of each block reached 500 kg.

Biodegradable fibre scaffolds incorporating water-soluble drugs and proteins

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 2015
A new type of biodegradable drug-loaded fibre scaffold has been successfully produced for the benefit of water-soluble drugs and proteins. Model drug loaded calcium carbonate (CaCO3) microparticles incorporated into poly(lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) fibres were manufactured by co-precipitation of CaCO3 and the drug molecules, followed by ...
