Metabolomic Signature of Visceral Adiposity: Insights from a Population-Based Cohort [PDF]

open access: yesMetabolites
Background: Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is a key determinant of cardiometabolic risk, yet its underlying molecular mechanisms remain incompletely characterized.

Plasma lipids connecting olfaction with cognition and physical function [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Olfactory deficit is an early sign of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and is related to age-related cognitive and physical function decline. However, underlying biological processes are not fully understood.

Cold-Induced Lipidomic Remodelling Is Associated With Brown Adipose Tissue Mean Radiodensity in Humans. [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes Obes Metab
ABSTRACT Aims Cold exposure activates brown adipose tissue (BAT) and promotes thermogenic and metabolic adaptations. While BAT activation has been linked to improved cardiometabolic health, how acute cold exposure reshapes the circulating lipidome in humans remains incompletely understood.

Lipid balance and chemoresistance in cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yeseLife
A shift in the balance between two lipids – cholesterol and sphingomyelin – makes hybrid epithelial-mesenchymal cancer cells less responsive to certain chemotherapy drugs.

Selective association of plasma sphingolipid species with insulin sensitivity and secretion in normoglycemic Black and White American adults [PDF]

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine
Ceramides and other sphingolipids are associated with diabetes risk. Here, we examined the association of plasma sphingolipids with insulin sensitivity and secretion in people without diabetes.

Targeted lipidomics between hPheo1 and SDHB KD cells reveal changes in bioactive lipids and PKC with polyamine pathway inhibition. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiol Rep
Abstract Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma with a succinate dehydrogenase B subunit (SDHB) pathogenic variant are associated with a significant chance for metastasis. Polyamine pathway inhibitor N1,N11‐diethylnorspermine (DENSPM) was previously shown to inhibit cell growth in progenitor cells derived from a human pheochromocytoma (hPheo1).

Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Direct analysis of sialylated or sulfated glycosphingolipids and other polar and neutral lipids using TLC-MS interfaces[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2014
Gangliosides and sulfatides (STs) are acidic glycosphingolipids (GSLs) that have one or more sialic acids or sulfate substituents, in addition to neutral sugars, attached to the C-1 hydroxyl group of the ceramide long chain base. TLC is a widely employed

Tear Film Amphiphilic and Anti-Inflammatory Lipids in Bovine Pink Eye

open access: yesMetabolites, 2018
Background: Tear film fluid serves as a dynamic barrier that both lubricates the eye and protects against allergens and infectious agents. However, a detailed analysis of a bacteria-induced immune response on the tear film lipidome has not been ...
