Grid Added Value to Address Malaria [PDF]
Through this paper, we call for a distributed, internet-based collaboration to address one of the worst plagues of our present world, malaria. The spirit is a non-proprietary peer-production of information-embedding goods.

Urbanization and Vector Species Shape Avian Malaria Prevalence in Mosquitoes
Avian malaria prevalence was assessed in two mosquito species across urban and peri‐urban habitats. No infections were detected in either species in urban areas, while a 2.53% prevalence was found in the native Culex pipiens from peri‐urban sites, highlighting the influence of urbanization on parasite transmission dynamics.

Vaccination With Sporozoites: Models and Correlates of Protection
Despite continuous efforts, the century-old goal of eradicating malaria still remains. Multiple control interventions need to be in place simultaneously to achieve this goal.

Malaria infection starts with the injection of Plasmodium sporozoites into the host’s skin. Sporozoites are motile and move in the skin to find and enter blood vessels to be carried to the liver.

In vitro inhibitory activities of sugarcane extract on avian Eimeria sporozoites
The current in vitro study aimed to investigate the effects of a processed sugarcane extract on the viability of avian Eimeria sporozoites. Treatments were applied to hatched sporozoites: 1) without additives (no-treatment control); 2) with ethanol; 3 ...

Seasonal and spatial dynamics of the primary vector of plasmodium knowlesi within a major transmission focus in Sabah, Malaysia [PDF]
Background The simian malaria parasite Plasmodium knowlesi is emerging as a public health problem in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysian Borneo where it now accounts for the greatest burden of malaria cases and deaths.

Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

Natural polymorphism in the thrombospondin-related adhesive protein of Plasmodium falciparum [PDF]
We have developed a typing system using natural sequence variation in the thrombospondin-related adhesive protein (TRAP) gene of Plasmodium falciparum. This method permits a haplotype to be assigned to any particular TRAP gene.

Transgenic Plasmodium berghei sporozoites expressing β-galactosidase for quantification of sporozoite transmission [PDF]
Malaria transmission occurs during a blood-meal of an infected Anopheles mosquito. Visualization and quantification of sporozoites along the journey from the mosquito midgut, where they develop, to the vertebrate liver, their final target organ, is important for understanding many aspects of sporozoite biology.

ABSTRACT Identifying the drivers of chronic stress is crucial for understanding its impact on mental health. Latent toxoplasmosis, a widespread parasitic infection, has been linked to various psychological changes. The Stress‐Coping Hypothesis proposes that at least some of these changes are consequences of chronic stress arising from the infection's ...
