Switching-On Fluorescence by Copper (II) and Basic Anions: A Case Study with a Pyrene-Functionalized Squaramide

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
The new symmetric acyclic N,N’-bis(1-pyrenyl) squaramide (H2L) functionalized with the pyrene moiety as a fluorogenic fragment has been designed and its ability to selectively detect specific anions and metals investigated. H2L selectively binds Cl− both

Chiral Bifunctional Amine-Squaramide-Catalyzed Highly Diastereo- and Enantioselective Michael/Aldol Cascade Reaction of 2‑Mercaptobenzaldehyde and α,β-Unsaturated 7‑Azaindoline Amides

open access: yes, 2019
A highly diastereo- and enantioselective Michael/aldol cascade reaction of 2-mercaptobenzaldehyde and α,β-unsaturated 7-azaindoline amides has been developed.

Experimental and Theoretical Studies in Hydrogen-Bonding Organocatalysis

open access: yesMolecules, 2015
Chiral thioureas and squaramides are among the most prominent hydrogen-bond bifunctional organocatalysts now extensively used for various transformations, including aldol, Michael, Mannich and Diels-Alder reactions. More importantly, the experimental and

Squaramide‐Based Supramolecular Materials Drive HepG2 Spheroid Differentiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
A major challenge in the use of HepG2 cell culture models for drug toxicity screening is their lack of maturity in 2D culture. 3D culture in Matrigel promotes the formation of spheroids that express liver-relevant markers, yet they still lack various ...

Fatty Acid-Activated Proton Transport by Bisaryl Anion Transporters Depolarises Mitochondria and Reduces the Viability of MDA-MB-231 Breast Cancer Cells

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2023
In respiring mitochondria, the proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane is used to drive ATP production. Mitochondrial uncouplers, which are typically weak acid protonophores, can disrupt this process to induce mitochondrial dysfunction ...

Enantioselective addition of diphenyl phosphonate to ketimines derived from isatins catalyzed by binaphthyl-modified organocatalysts

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2016
Chiral binaphthyl-modified squaramide-catalyzed enantioselective addition of diphenyl phosphonate to ketimines derived from isatins has been achieved. This method affords practical and efficient access to chiral 3-amino-3-phosphonyl-substituted oxindole ...

Asymmetric Dearomative (3+2)-Cycloaddition Involving Nitro-Substituted Benzoheteroarenes under H-Bonding Catalysis

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
In our studies, the organocatalytic 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between 2-nitrobenzofurans or 2-nitrobenzothiophene and N-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl-substituted isatin imines has been developed.

Organocatalytic Enantioselective Addition of Malonates to Cyclic Imines: A Short Total Synthesis of Tetraponerine T‐1

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 38, 14 September 2026.
A stereoselective functionalization method of cyclic imines under mild organocatalytic conditions was developed. Bifunctional cinchona alkaloid catalysts combined with carefully optimized reaction conditions to suppress background reactivity enabled highly enantio‐ and diastereoselective addition reactions of malonates to cyclic imines.
