Structural modification of functionalized carbazoles: from Z′ = 1 to Z′ = 6

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section B, Volume 82, Issue 3, Page 339-343, June 2026.
The crystal structure of a 2,3,9,9a‐tetrahydro‐1H‐carbazole in the space group Ia is reported, showing Z′ = 6 and approximate Fdd2 symmetry, and compared to the low Z′ crystal structures of two closely related congeners.Crystal structures with asymmetric units comprising large numbers of molecules (Z′ > 4) remain rare.

Staurosporine as a Potential Treatment for Acanthamoeba Keratitis Using Mouse Cornea as an Ex Vivo Model

open access: yesMarine Drugs
Acanthamoeba is a ubiquitous genus of amoebae that can trigger a severe and progressive ocular disease known as Acanthamoeba Keratitis (AK). Furthermore, current treatment protocols are based on the combination of different compounds that are not fully ...

Modulation of KATP channels by diazoxide preserves mitochondrial function and barrier integrity under staurosporine‐induced epithelial stress

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 12, Page 3213-3233, June 2026.
Background and Purpose Intestinal barrier dysfunction caused by mitochondrial stress, oxidative damage and apoptosis, are hallmarks of dysbiosis‐associated gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. Staurosporine causes downstream features of dysbiosis‐induced epithelial damage.

Activation of Rac1-dependent redox signaling is critically involved in staurosporine-induced neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells

open access: yes, 2013
Staurosporine, a non-specific protein kinase inhibitor, has been shown to induce neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells, but the mechanism by which staurosporine induces neurite outgrowth is still obscure.

Oxytocin‐ und Vasopressin‐Photosonden zur Entschlüsselung der Neuropeptid‐Signalgebung mit hoher räumlicher und zeitlicher Präzision

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 22, 25 May 2026.
Staurosporine but not chelerythrine inhibits regeneration in hippocampal organotypic cultures

open access: yes, 1997
A mechanical lesion in hippocampal organotypic cultures is followed by a recovery process involving scar formation, sprouting of fibres and formation of new functional synapses.

Photocaged Oxytocin and Vasopressin Probes to Decipher Neuropeptide Signalling With High Spatiotemporal Resolution

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 22, 25 May 2026.
Novel and biocompatible photoactivatable oxytocin and vasopressin probes, utilising state‐of‐the‐art photocages, remain inactive in the dark. Light exposure facilitates rapid spatiotemporal receptor activation and phospholipase C (PLC)‐mediated downstream signalling. Figure created in https://BioRender.com.

Raising intracellular calcium attenuates neuronal apoptosis triggered by staurosporine or oxygen-glucose deprivation in the presence of glutamate receptor blockade

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2004
The relationship between intracellular Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) regulation and programmed cell death is not well-defined; both increases and decreases in [Ca2+]i have been observed in cells undergoing apoptosis.

On the origins of enzyme inhibitor selectivity and promiscuity: a case study of protein kinase binding to staurosporine

open access: yes, 2009
Protein kinases are important regulatory enzymes in signal transduction and in cell regulation. Understanding inhibition mechanisms of kinases is important for the further development of new therapies for cancer and inflammatory diseases.

Staurosporine Inhibits Frequency-Dependent Myofilament Desensitization in Intact Rabbit Cardiac Trabeculae

open access: yesBiochemistry Research International, 2012
Myofilament calcium sensitivity decreases with frequency in intact healthy rabbit trabeculae and associates with Troponin I and Myosin light chain-2 phosphorylation.
