Exploring the Evolution of a Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy with Smoothed-particle Hydrodynamics Simulations. I. Stellar Feedback

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A fundamental question regarding the evolution of dwarf spheroidal galaxies is the identification of the key physical mechanisms responsible for gas depletion.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

A Census of Star Formation Histories of Massive Galaxies at 0.6 < z < 1 from Spectrophotometric Modeling Using Bagpipes and Prospector

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present individual star formation histories (SFHs) of ∼3000 massive galaxies (log( M _* / M _⊙ ) > 10.5) from the Large Early Galaxy Astrophysics Census spectroscopic survey at a lookback time of ∼7 billion yr and quantify the population trends ...

Intrinsic stellar mass flux and steady stellar winds

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1982
The conventional view that winds from stars like the Sun result from the existence of a hot corona and a low-pressure interstellar medium has recently been challeanged by R. N. Thomas and collegues. They suggest that the rates of mass loss from these and other stars are determined by conditions imposed on the flow at or below photospheric levels and ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Mass Ejection Driven by Sudden Energy Deposition in Stellar Envelopes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A number of stellar astrophysical phenomena, such as tidal novae and planetary engulfment, involve sudden injection of subbinding energy in a thin layer within the star, leading to mass ejection of the stellar envelope.

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

The Outskirt Stellar Mass of Low-redshift Massive Galaxies Is an Excellent Halo Mass Proxy in Illustris/IllustrisTNG Simulations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Recent observations suggest that the extended stellar halos of low-redshift massive galaxies are tightly connected to the assembly of their dark matter halos.
