The theory of stellar winds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present a brief overview of the theory of stellar winds with a strong emphasis on the radiation-driven outflows from massive stars. The resulting implications for the evolution and fate of massive stars are also discussed.

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Weakened Magnetic Braking in the Exoplanet Host Star 51 Peg

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The consistently low activity level of the old solar analog 51 Peg not only facilitated the discovery of the first hot Jupiter, but also led to the suggestion that the star could be experiencing a magnetic grand minimum.

SPIN EVOLUTION OF ACCRETING YOUNG STARS. II. EFFECT OF ACCRETION-POWERED STELLAR WINDS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present a model for the rotational evolution of a young, solar-mass star interacting magnetically with an accretion disk. As in a previous paper (Paper I), the model includes changes in the star's mass and radius as it descends the Hayashi track, a ...

Data‐driven discovery of gene expression markers distinguishing pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia subtypes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates gene expression differences between two major pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) subtypes, B‐cell precursor ALL, and T‐cell ALL, using a data‐driven approach consisting of biostatistics and machine learning methods. Following analysis of a discovery dataset, we find a set of 14 expression markers differentiating the ...

Stellar hydrodynamical modeling of dwarf galaxies: simulation methodology, tests, and first results

open access: yes, 2015
Cosmological simulations still lack numerical resolution or physical processes to simulate dwarf galaxies in sufficient details. Accurate numerical simulations of individual dwarf galaxies are thus still in demand.

Comprehensive omics‐based classification system in adult patients with B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The COMBAT classification system, developed through multi‐omics integration, stratifies adult patients with B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia(B‐ALL) into three molecular subtypes with distinct surface antigen patterns, immune landscape, methylation patterns, biological pathways and prognosis.

New insight into the physics of atmospheres of early type stars [PDF]

open access: yes
The phenomenon of mass loss and stellar winds from hot stars are discussed. The mass loss rate of early type stars increases by about a factor of 100 to 1000 during their evolution.
