We found that during chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA), Sonic hedgehog (Shh) expression significantly decreased in hair follicle Shh+ cells, whereas the Janus‐activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (JAK/STAT1) signaling pathway was markedly activated.

Runx2+ Niche Cells Maintain Incisor Mesenchymal Tissue Homeostasis through IGF Signaling
Summary: Stem cell niches provide a microenvironment to support the self-renewal and multi-lineage differentiation of stem cells. Cell-cell interactions within the niche are essential for maintaining tissue homeostasis.

Cytonemes coordinate asymmetric signaling and organization in the Drosophila muscle progenitor niche
Asymmetric signaling and organization in the stem cell niche determine cell fates. Here the authors show that polarized contact-dependent signaling through specialized cytonemes forms the basis of niche-specific asymmetric signaling and stem cell ...

Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

Cancer stem cell and niche [PDF]
Recent research on cancer has generated a new model for cancer growth-cancer stem cell model. This model can explain the inefficiency of conventional therapy. Tumor tissue, like normal tissue, is continuously repopulated from pools of self-renewing stem cells growing in a "niche", which is made up of a specialized vascular bed of endothelial cells ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Tenascins are extracellular matrix proteins with distinct spatial and temporal expression during development, tissue homeostasis and disease. Based on their expression patterns and knockout phenotypes an important role of tenascins in tissue formation, cell adhesion modulation, regulation of proliferation and differentiation has been demonstrated.

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Laminin is the ECM niche for trophoblast stem cells
Laminin functions as an ECM niche factor for trophoblast stem cells and secures trophoblast stem cell expansion through its interactions with integrin. The niche is a specialized microenvironment for tissue stem cells in vivo. It has long been emphasized

Hematopoietic stem cell niches [PDF]
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) reside at the apex of the hematopoietic hierarchy, with self-renewal and differentiation potential, and are widely used in clinic. Studies in the past few decades have confirmed that the functional characteristics of HSC are not only controlled by intrinsic factors, but also supported and nourished by extrinsic ...
