Steric effects in cyclization reactions [PDF]

open access: bronzeAustralian Journal of Chemistry, 1976
Calculations of geometric probability factors indicate that steric effects are important in determining whether the cyclization of β-substituted diallylmethylammonium ions results in five- or six-memberedrings. Evidence is obtained of the direction of intramolecular attack.

Electrostatic and steric effects underlie acetylation-induced changes in ubiquitin structure and function [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Ubiquitin is not only a posttranslational modifier but itself is subject to modifications, such as acetylation. Characterization of distinct acetylated ubiquitin variants reveals that each acetylation site has a particular impact on ubiquitin structure ...

Poisson-Fermi Formulation of Nonlocal Electrostatics in Electrolyte Solutions [PDF]

open access: yesComputational and Mathematical Biophysics, 2017
We present a nonlocal electrostatic formulation of nonuniform ions and water molecules with interstitial voids that uses a Fermi-like distribution to account for steric and correlation efects in electrolyte solutions.

A Highly Efficient Regioselective Addition of Acetylides to Enediones Based on Steric Effects [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
A simple and efficient strategy for the synthesis of 1-ethynylcyclohex-2-enol derivatives was developed utilizing regioselective addition of acetylides to enediones based on steric effects.

Review and Modification of Entropy Modeling for Steric Effects in the Poisson-Boltzmann Equation [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
The classical Poisson-Boltzmann model can only work when ion concentrations are very dilute, which often does not match the experimental conditions.

Mercury(II) Complexes of Anionic N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands: Steric Effects of the Backbone Substituent [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Mercury(II) complexes (Me-maloNHCDipp)HgCl (1b), (t-Bu-maloNHCDipp)HgCl (2b) and (t-Bu-maloNHCDipp)HgMe (2c) supported by anionic N-heterocyclic carbenes have been obtained in good yields from the reaction of the potassium salt of N-heterocyclic carbene ...

A Computational Chemistry Investigation of the Influence of Steric Bulk of Dithiocarbamato-Bound Organic Substituents upon Spodium Bonding in Three Homoleptic Mercury(II) Bis(N,N-dialkyldithiocarbamato) Compounds for Alkyl = Ethyl, Isobutyl, and Cyclohexyl

open access: yesInorganics, 2023
Three homoleptic Hg(S2CNR2)2, for R = ethyl (1), isobutyl (2), and cyclohexyl (3), compounds apparently exhibit a steric-dependent supramolecular association in their crystals.

PB-steric equations: A general model of Poisson-Boltzmann equations [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM J. Appl. Math. 83 (2023) 1603-1622, 2023
When ions are crowded, the effect of steric repulsion between ions (which can produce oscillations in charge density profiles) becomes significant and the conventional Poisson-Boltzmann (PB) equation should be modified. Several modified PB equations were developed but the associated total ionic charge density has no oscillation.

Steric Effects on Space Electroosmotic Thrusters in Soft Nanochannels

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
The influence of steric effects on the performances of space electroosmotic thrusters (EOTs) was numerically delineated in soft nanochannels for which its walls are covered with polyelectrolyte materials.

Steric and Slippage Effects on Mass Transport by Using an Oscillatory Electroosmotic Flow of Power-Law Fluids

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
In this paper, the combined effect of the fluid rheology, finite-sized ions, and slippage toward augmenting a non-reacting solute’s mass transport due to an oscillatory electroosmotic flow (OEOF) is determined.
