Steric Effects Govern the Photoactivation of Phytochromes

open access: yesChemPhysChem, 2016
AbstractPhytochromes constitute a superfamily of photoreceptor proteins existing in two forms that absorb red (Pr) and far‐red (Pfr) light. Although it is well‐known that the conversion of Pr into Pfr (the biologically active form) is triggered by a Z→E photoisomerization of the linear tetrapyrrole chromophore, direct evidence is scarce as to why this ...

A Computational Chemistry Investigation of the Influence of Steric Bulk of Dithiocarbamato-Bound Organic Substituents upon Spodium Bonding in Three Homoleptic Mercury(II) Bis(N,N-dialkyldithiocarbamato) Compounds for Alkyl = Ethyl, Isobutyl, and Cyclohexyl

open access: yesInorganics, 2023
Three homoleptic Hg(S2CNR2)2, for R = ethyl (1), isobutyl (2), and cyclohexyl (3), compounds apparently exhibit a steric-dependent supramolecular association in their crystals.

PB-steric equations: A general model of Poisson-Boltzmann equations [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM J. Appl. Math. 83 (2023) 1603-1622, 2023
When ions are crowded, the effect of steric repulsion between ions (which can produce oscillations in charge density profiles) becomes significant and the conventional Poisson-Boltzmann (PB) equation should be modified. Several modified PB equations were developed but the associated total ionic charge density has no oscillation.

Steric Effects on Space Electroosmotic Thrusters in Soft Nanochannels

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
The influence of steric effects on the performances of space electroosmotic thrusters (EOTs) was numerically delineated in soft nanochannels for which its walls are covered with polyelectrolyte materials.

Steric and Slippage Effects on Mass Transport by Using an Oscillatory Electroosmotic Flow of Power-Law Fluids

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
In this paper, the combined effect of the fluid rheology, finite-sized ions, and slippage toward augmenting a non-reacting solute’s mass transport due to an oscillatory electroosmotic flow (OEOF) is determined.

Steric Effects on Electroosmotic Nano-Thrusters under High Zeta Potentials

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
Here, space electroosmotic thrusters in a rigid nanochannel with high wall zeta potentials are investigated numerically, for the first time, considering the effect of finite size of the ionic species. The effect, which is called a steric effect, is often

STERIC EFFECT IN DIFLUORINEALCANE MOLECULES [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical and chemical aspects of the study of clusters, nanostructures and nanomaterials, 2019
Fifteen conformers of the CHF2 – (CH2)6 – CH3 molecule were found. Within a «quantum theory of atoms in molecules», their equilibrium geometry, total energies and the electron structure were studied. Analysis and comparison of electron parameters revealed in some structures a steric effect from CHF2.

UNA PROPUESTA PARA ENSEÑAR EL EFECTO DE LA FORMA DE LAS MOLÉCULAS EN LA REACTIVIDAD QUÍMICA

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2015
We address the concept of steric effect in the pursuit of establishing quantitative correlations between reactivity of molecules and their molecular shape.

El Niño, La Niña, and the global sea level budget [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Science, 2016
Previous studies show that nonseasonal variations in global-mean sea level (GMSL) are significantly correlated with El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO).
