Engineering tandem VHHs to target different epitopes to enhance antibody‐dependent cell‐mediated cytotoxicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tandem VHH targeting distinct EGFR epitopes were engineered into a monovalent bispecific antibody (7D12‐EGA1‐Fc) with more potent ADCC without increasing affinity to EGFR. Structural modeling of 7D12‐EGA1‐Fc showed cross‐linking of separate EGFR domains to enhance CD16a engagement on NK cells.

Bridge Nucleic Acid/DNA Gapmers as Potential Inhibitors of Bacterial Gene Expression by Multiple Antisense Mechanisms: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesMolecules
Antisense inhibition of gene expression is usually achieved using nuclease-resistant oligonucleotide analogs that promote mRNA degradation through RNase H or RNase P, or by steric hindrance of translation.

Structural relaxation in a system of dumbbell molecules

open access: yes, 2002
The interaction-site-density-fluctuation correlators, the dipole-relaxation functions, and the mean-squared displacements of a system of symmetric dumbbells of fused hard spheres are calculated for two representative elongations of the molecules within ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Steric hindrance induced low exciton binding energy enables low‐driving‐force organic solar cells

open access: yesAggregate
Exciton binding energy (Eb) has been regarded as a critical parameter in charge separation during photovoltaic conversion. Minimizing the Eb of the photovoltaic materials can facilitate the exciton dissociation in low‐driving force organic solar cells ...

Kinetics of lithium peroxide oxidation by redox mediators and consequences for the lithium–oxygen cell

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
The kinetics of Li2O2 oxidation is of high importance to the operation of Li–O2 batteries. Here the authors work on different types of mediators revealing the dependence of the kinetics on the nature of the redox active site and its steric hindrance.

Synthesis of Ni/NiAlOx Catalysts for Hydrogenation Saturation of Phenanthrene

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2021
The saturation of octahydrophenanthrene was the rate-determining step in the hydrogenation process from phenanthrene to perhydrophenanthrene, which was due to the steric hindrance and competitive adsorption of octahydrophenanthrene.
