Estimating causal structure using conditional DAG models

open access: yes, 2014
This paper considers inference of causal structure in a class of graphical models called "conditional DAGs". These are directed acyclic graph (DAG) models with two kinds of variables, primary and secondary. The secondary variables are used to aid in estimation of causal relationships between the primary variables.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Distributed-lag Linear Structural Equation Models in R: the dlsem Package

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2019
In this paper, an extension of linear Markovian structural causal models is introduced, called distributed-lag linear structural equation models (DLSEMs), where each factor of the joint probability distribution is a distributed-lag linear regression with

Distribution-consistency Structural Causal Models

open access: yes
In the field of causal modeling, potential outcomes (PO) and structural causal models (SCMs) stand as the predominant frameworks. However, these frameworks face notable challenges in practically modeling counterfactuals, formalized as parameters of the joint distribution of potential outcomes.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Bayesian networks for causal analysis in socioecological systems

open access: yesEcological Informatics
Analyzing the influence of socioeconomy on land use is an important task, as socioeconomic factors can drive changes in land use that may ultimately affect human well-being.

Causal Reasoning with Forces

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2015
Causal composition allows people to generate new causal relations by combining existing causal knowledge. We introduce a new computational model of such reasoning, the force theory, which holds that people compose causal relations by simulating the ...

Causal order between money, income and price through graph theoretic approach for Pakistan [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigate the causal relationship between money, income and price for Pakistan using quarterly data from 1971-2003. We find that both money supply and prices cause income thus verifying the monetarists' point of view.
