Insight into Janus kinases specificity: From molecular architecture to cancer therapeutics

open access: yesMedComm – Oncology
Janus Kinases (JAKs) play a crucial role as therapeutic targets for various cancers. However, the current JAK inhibitors (JAKi) available have limited therapeutic benefits due to their lack of selectivity.

Novel indole-based synthetic molecules in cancer treatment: Synthetic strategies and structure-activity relationship

open access: yesMedicine in Drug Discovery
Indole is one of the naturally occurring nitrogen-containing bicyclic heterocyclic ring systems where benzene and pyrrole rings are fused. It has been demonstrated to exhibit versatile biological activities.

Establishment and optimization of the two‐step induction system for generating primordial germ cell‐like cells from chicken embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study optimizes a two‐step induction system to generate PGCLCs from chicken ESCs. The induced cells express germline markers and migrate to gonads in ovo, offering a novel approach for avian genetic resource conservation. Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are the progenitor cells of sperm and eggs.

Structure-Activity and Lipophilicity Relationships of Selected Antibacterial Natural Flavones and Flavanones of Chilean Flora

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
In this study, we tested eight naturally-occurring flavonoids—three flavanones and five flavones—for their possible antibacterial properties against four Gram-positive and four Gram-negative bacteria.

Short‐term actions of epigalocatechin‐3‐gallate in the liver: a mechanistic insight into hypoglycemic and potential toxic effects

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

Synthesis, docking study and biological evaluation of some new thiourea derivatives bearing benzenesulfonamide moiety

open access: yesChemistry Central Journal, 2017
Background A series of novel N-(2, 6-dimethoxypyrimidin-4-yl)-4-(3-(aryl)thioureido) benzenesulfonamides 3a–t was synthesized by the addition of N-(2,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-4-yl)-4-isothiocyanatobenzenesulfonamide 2 to the appropriate aromatic amine.

Production of antibacterial compounds by a Steely hybrid polyketide synthase in Dictyostelium

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
By selecting appropriate production species under optimised culture conditions, new chlorinated dibenzofuran compounds, which previously could not be analysed in sufficient quantities, were identified from cellular slime mould fruiting bodies. The strong antibacterial activity exhibited by these compounds suggests a link to the ecological function of ...

Adapting the Interrelated Two-way Clustering method for Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) Modeling of a Diverse Set of Chemical Compounds

open access: yes, 2013
Interrelated Two-way Clustering (ITC) is an unsupervised clustering method developed to divide samples into two groups in gene expression data obtained through microarrays, selecting important genes simultaneously in the process.
