Conservation genetics of the white-bellied pangolin in West Africa: A story of lineage admixture, declining demography, and wide sourcing by urban bushmeat markets. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Our work derives from an unprecedented, exhaustive genetic survey of the pangolin trade in three countries from West Africa (Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, and Ghana). Our study combining mitochondrial DNA sequencing and microsatellite genotyping is the first to reveal a global pattern of admixture between two of the six mitochondrial lineages previously ...

Fluid hunter motivation in Central Africa: Effects on behaviour, bushmeat and income

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 5, Issue 5, Page 1480-1496, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Individual motivation for the rural use of common‐pool resources (CPRs) can be fluid, with the line between subsistence and commercial often unclear and in flux. Implications of fluid motivation are understudied yet important for social–ecological systems (SESs), such as bushmeat hunting throughout Central Africa that is essential to local ...

Predicting bushmeat biomass from species composition captured by camera traps: Implications for locally based wildlife monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 10, Page 2567-2580, October 2022., 2022
The two indicators based on captured animal composition may effectively predict the total biomass of the main target species for bushmeat hunting, given a reasonably large sample size. The R/B ratio (red duikers/blue duikers) is recommended as a first choice; the D/R ratio (duikers/rodents) can be a good alternative when information sharing is not ...

Genetic, physiological, and cellular heterogeneities of bacterial pathogens in food matrices: Consequences for food safety

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 21, Issue 5, Page 4294-4326, September 2022., 2022
Abstract In complex food systems, bacteria live in heterogeneous microstructures, and the population displays phenotypic heterogeneities at the single‐cell level. This review provides an overview of spatiotemporal drivers of phenotypic heterogeneity of bacterial pathogens in food matrices at three levels.

Wild meat hunting levels and trade in a West African protected area in Togo

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 2, Page 153-164, June 2022., 2022
Abstract We assessed numbers and biomass of species hunted and sold for wild meat in 12 park‐adjacent settlements in the Fazao Malfakassa National Park (FMNP), Togo. From hunter interviews and market carcass counts, 33 species, 28 from hunter interviews and 26 from market surveys were taken, respectively.

Profiling the types of restaurants that sell wild meat in Central African cities

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 2, Page 197-204, June 2022., 2022
Abstract Central African cities are major centres of demand for wild meat, even when affordable alternative proteins are widely available. Many people eat wild meat in restaurants; therefore, restaurateurs are well placed to provide insights into the wild meat trade and consumer preferences.

Impacts of the COVID‐19 pandemic on livelihoods and wild meat use in communities surrounding the Dja Faunal Reserve, South‐East Cameroon

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 2, Page 135-145, June 2022., 2022
Abstract The COVID‐19 outbreak has had considerable negative impacts on the livelihoods and living conditions of communities around the world. Although the source of COVID‐19 is still unknown, a widely spread hypothesis is that the virus could be of animal origin.

Conséquences des traitements technologiques sur la qualité de la viande

open access: yesINRAE Productions Animales, 1991
Le poids des technologies dans la définition des qualités organoleptiques des viandes est indéniable. Parmi ces qualités, nous avons choisi de nous intéresser plus particulièrement à la tendreté et au processus d’attendrissage puisque, chez le bovin ...
