Brain macrophages in human cortical contusions as indicator of survival period [PDF]
The aim of this study was to establish a morphologic time scheme with which cases of cerebral contusion with unknown survival periods can be dated. Our study of 275 cases was limited to qualitative and quantitative changes in macrophages.

Evaluation of Nanostructured Lipid Carriers Produced with Interesterified Buriti Oil
Research background. Extracted from the pulp of an Amazonian fruit, buriti oil is rich in micronutrients with antioxidant properties and high biological value. The few studies available indicate that this oil could be used in a wide range of applications;

Functional role of water in membranes updated: A tribute to Träuble [PDF]
The classical view of a cell membrane is as a hydrophobic slab in which only nonpolar solutes can dissolve and permeate. However, water-soluble non-electrolytes such as glycerol, erythritol, urea and others can permeate lipid membranes in the liquid ...

Neural Stem Cell Spreading on Lipid Based Artificial Cell Surfaces, Characterized by Combined X-ray and Neutron Reflectometry [PDF]
We developed a bioadhesive coating based on a synthetic peptide-conjugate (AK-cycloRGDfC]) which contains multiples of the arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid (RGD) amino acid sequence.

A Sec14 domain protein is required for photoautotrophic growth and chloroplast vesicle formation in Arabidopsis thaliana. [PDF]
In eukaryotic photosynthetic organisms, the conversion of solar into chemical energy occurs in thylakoid membranes in the chloroplast. How thylakoid membranes are formed and maintained is poorly understood.

Lipid classification, structures and tools [PDF]
The study of lipids has developed into a research field of increasing importance as their multiple biological roles in cell biology, physiology and pathology are becoming better understood. The Lipid Metabolites and Pathways Strategy (LIPID MAPS) consortium is actively involved in an integrated approach for the detection, quantitation and pathway ...
