Solid-State Fermentation (SSF) versus Submerged Fermentation (SmF) for the Recovery of Cellulases from Coffee Husks: A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Based Comparison

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
This article studies the environmental impacts of cellulase production by using a comparative attributional life cycle assessment (LCA) of two different scenarios of production. The first one is the commonly used submerged fermentation (SmF) using a pure

Nutritional and functional properties changes during facultative submerged fermentation of gadung (Dioscorea hispida Dennst) tuber flour using Lactobacillus plantarum

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
This work aims to examine the influence of flour concentrations (5%–25% w/v), inoculum loading (2.5%–15% v/v), and fermentation time (0–144 h) on the nutritional and functional properties of gadung (Dioscorea hispida Dennst) tuber flour.

A New Apparatus for Submerged Fermentation

open access: yesJournal of the agricultural chemical society of Japan, 1950
(1) With an idea of blowing the air in a fermenter into broth repeatedly by rotating a special agitating tube, We planned an appratus for submerged fermentation. (2) By this small apparatus we obtained nearly the same rapidity of fermentation which has been shown in the industrial preparation of sorbose, penicillin and streptomycin.

Sustainable Catalyst‐Free PLG Networks: Recyclability, Biodegradability, and Functional Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A catalyst‐additive free covalent adaptable network is developed from star‐shaped poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) cross‐linked with pyromellitic dianhydride, enabling internal carboxylic acid‐driven transesterification. The resulting biodegradable network exhibits mechanical robustness (Young's modulus ≈1.6 GPa), complete recyclability, rapid biodegradation

Studies on the Ventilation in Submerged Fermentations

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1971
As the basic research for the study of mechanism of ventilation in submerged fermentations, the formula of carbon dioxide in the liquid phase was investigated. Carbon dioxide in liquid phase was mainly classified into two groups. One was a gaseous form and the other was a dissociated form.

Shaping of Biohybrid Functional Living Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a strategy for shaping living mycelium into functional materials by directing its natural growth. Nanoparticles armor hyphae, micron‐scale particles entangle within the network, and printed hydrogel architectures steer expansion, creating defined geometries.
