Impact of Power Loss in the Substrate on the Efficiency of RF GaN-on-Si HEMTs

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society
In RF GaN-on-Si technology, the semiconducting Si substrate can couple to the overlying circuitry and cause substrate loss, which is known to degrade the performance of passive structures. An impact on active devices also exists.

Hermeticity Analysis on SiC Cavity Structure for All-SiC Piezoresistive Pressure Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2021
The hermeticity performance of the cavity structure has an impact on the long-term stability of absolute pressure sensors for high temperature applications.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Environmental Specification of Pluripotent Stem Cell Derived Endothelial Cells Toward Arterial and Venous Subtypes

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2019
Endothelial cells (ECs) are required for a multitude of cardiovascular clinical applications, such as revascularization of ischemic tissues or endothelialization of tissue engineered grafts.

Embryonic stem cells become mechanoresponsive upon exit from ground state of pluripotency [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Biology, 2019
Stem cell fate decisions are driven by a broad array of signals, both chemical and mechanical. Although much progress has been made in our understanding of the impact of chemical signals on cell fate choice, much less is known about the role and ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

The substrate specificity of carnitine acetyltransferase [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1967
1. A study of the acyl group specificity of the carnitine acetyltransferase reaction [acyl-(-)carnitine+CoASH right harpoon over left harpoon (-)-carnitine+acyl-CoA] has been made with the enzyme from pigeon breast muscle. Acyl groups containing up to 10 carbon atoms are transferred and detailed kinetic investigations with a range of acyl-CoA and ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Substrate Specificity of Soybean Lipoxidase

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1969
Abstract Purified soybean lipoxidase was used to test the substrate specificity of all cis,cis-methylene-interrupted isomers of linoleic acid. The natural 9,12-isomer was found to be the best substrate, and the 13,16-isomer 50% as effective. The presence of calcium ions broadened the pattern of specificity.
