Immunization protocols against Cryptosporidium parvum in ovines: protection in suckling lambs
Veterinary Parasitology, 2005Ovine colostrum and milk from immunized ewes were tested for their ability to prevent cryptosporidiosis in the lambs experimentally infected with 10(6) oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum at 36-48 h of age (day 0 post-infection). All lambs became infected and developed clinical cryptosporidiosis.

Lambs prevented from suckling their mothers display behavioral, immune and endocrine disturbances
Physiology & Behavior, 2003The aim of the experiment was to assess the effects of either maternal deprivation or prevented suckling on lambs. Thirty Comisana lambs were assigned to a control dam-suckled group (DS) and two test groups of 10 each. Test lambs were maintained with their mothers 24 to 30 h after parturition and subsequently offered ewe milk from buckets: EM lambs ...

Transfer of Radiocesium from Different Environmental Sources to Ewes and Suckling Lambs
Health Physics, 1989Indoor experiments are described that compare the transfer of radiocesium to ewe and lamb tissues from different sources. Lactating ewes were fed either perennial ryegrass contaminated by Chernobyl fallout, or saltmarsh vegetation contaminated by marine discharges from the Sellafield reprocessing plant.

Observations on the suckling behaviour of young lambs

Observations on the suckling habits of twin lambs
Animal Behaviour, 1964Abstract A dawn to dusk watch, repeated at weekly intervals for 10 weeks and followed by a further watch a fortnight later, was carried out on a flock of 30 ewes and their 15 single lambs and 15 pairs of twin lambs. A total of 2,106 observations were made on the frequency with which lambs suckled and on the sides of the ewes which twin lambs used ...

Nursing and suckling behaviour amongst clun forest ewes and lambs
Animal Behaviour, 1967Abstract A sunrise to sunset watch, repeated at weekly intervals for 8 weeks, was carried out on a flock of nineteen ewes and their twelve single and seven pairs of twin lambs. Records were kept of the frequency of occurrence of all the sucklings and also of the sides of the ewe from which single and twin lambs suckled.

Pharmacokinetics of doramectin in lactating dairy sheep and suckling lambs
Analytica Chimica Acta, 2005Abstract The aim of the present study was to estimate permeation of doramectin (DOR) into sheep's milk by following its time course in blood plasma and milk. Six Istrian Pramenka sheep in the early lactation period, each having a suckling lamb, were administered DOR in a single subcutaneous dose of 0.2 mg kg −1 body weight.
