Infrared Spectroscopic Analysis of the Inorganic Deposits from Water in Domestic and Technical Heat Exchangers

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
The deposition of insoluble inorganic substances on heat exchanger surfaces has a strong negative influence on the heat transfer and thus on the performance of the apparatus and the process.

Leaf developmental stage affects sulfate depletion and specific sulfate transporter expression during sulfur deprivation in Brassica napus L.

open access: yes, 2007
Brassica napus was grown under hydroponic conditions and responses to the removal of the external supply of sulfur (S) were analysed in roots and in leaves of different developmental age.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Effect of Nickel and Cobalt on Methanogenic Enrichment Cultures and Role of Biogenic Sulfide in Metal Toxicity Attenuation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Metals play an important role in microbial metabolism by acting as cofactors for many enzymes. Supplementation of biological processes with metals may result in improved performance, but high metal concentrations are often toxic to microorganisms.

Sulfate-Incarcerating Nanojars: Solution and Solid-State Studies, Sulfate Extraction from Water, and Anion Exchange with Carbonate

open access: yes, 2016
A series of 9 homologous sulfate-incarcerating nanojars [SO4⊂{Cu(OH)(pz)}n]2– (Cun; n = 27–33; pz = pyrazolate), based on combinations of three [Cu(OH)(pz)]x rings (x = 6–14, except 11)namely, 6 + 12 + 9 (Cu27), 6 + 12 + 10 (Cu28), 8 + 13 + 8 (Cu29),

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...

Estuary Sediment Treatment for Reducing Sulfate in Acid Mine Water

open access: yesEnvironment and Natural Resources Journal, 2020
Acid mine water causes environmental problems due to its high acidity caused by its high sulfate content which can disturb the life of organisms. This problem can be resolved by utilizing sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) abundantly found in sediments ...

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Determination of sulfate in the wet-process of phosphoric acid by reverse flow injection

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2014
An improved method based on reverse flow injection is proposed for determining sulfate concentration in the wet-process of phosphoric acid (WPA). The effect of reagent composition, flow rate, temperature, acid concentration, length of the reaction coil ...
