Structure and composition of sulfatides isolated from livers of patients with metachromatic leukodystrophy: galactosyl sulfatide and lactosyl sulfatide

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1974
The livers of four patients with metachromatic leukodystrophy contained galactosyl sulfatide and lactosyl sulfatide, whereas these substances were undetectable in normal human liver.

Case Report: A case of subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord associated with chronic atrophic gastritis, macrocytic anemia, and positive anti-sulfatide IgM and IgG antibodies. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Immunol
BackgroundAnti-sulfatide antibodies are autoantibodies that are associated with various neurological disorders. They have been identified in several conditions including Guillain–Barré syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and chronic inflammatory demyelinating ...

Sulfatide with ceramide composed of phytosphingosine (t18:0) and 2-hydroxy FAs in renal intercalated cells

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2022
Diverse molecular species of sulfatide with differences in FA lengths, unsaturation degrees, and hydroxylation statuses are expressed in the kidneys. However, the physiological functions of specific sulfatide species in the kidneys are unclear.

Prognostic and immunological role of sulfatide-related lncRNAs in hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2023
BackgroundHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary malignancy of the liver. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in the occurrence and development of HCC through multiple pathways.

Leukodystrophy in Tanzania: A Case Study Highlighting Diagnostic Dilemmas and Clinical Implications [PDF]

open access: yesClin Case Rep
ABSTRACT Leukodystrophies are rare inherited neurodegenerative disorders characterized by progressive white matter dysfunction and neurological decline. In low‐resource settings, limited access to advanced neuroimaging, biochemical investigations, and genetic testing often delays diagnosis and complicates differentiation from more common infectious ...

Adult-onset CNS myelin sulfatide deficiency is sufficient to cause Alzheimer’s disease-like neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment

open access: yesMolecular Neurodegeneration, 2021
Background Human genetic association studies point to immune response and lipid metabolism, in addition to amyloid-beta (Aβ) and tau, as major pathways in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) etiology.

Sulfatides [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 2003
Background— Sulfatides are sulfated glycosphingolipids expressed on the surface of erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets. Sulfatides interact with several cell adhesion molecules involved in hemostasis.

In Silico Studies of Synthetic Sulfatide as a Potential Drug Candidate Against Covid-19

open access: yesCumhuriyet Science Journal, 2022
Sulfatides play various roles in many biological processes such as cancer metastasis, viral infections and regulation in nerve cells. The sulfatide molecules are related with hypertension diseases in which ACE2 (Angiotensin converting enzyme) is ...

Uptake of the glycosphingolipid sulfatide in the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas in vivo and in isolated islets of Langerhans

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2006
Background The glycosphingolipid sulfatide has previously been found in several mammalian tissues, but information on the uptake of exogenously administered sulfatide in different organs in vivo is limited.

Sulfatide Inhibits HMGB1 Secretion by Hindering Toll-Like Receptor 4 Localization Within Lipid Rafts

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
The high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) is a well-known late mediator of sepsis, secreted by multiple stimuli, involving pathways, such as the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathways, and reactive oxygen species (
