Effect of sulfhydryl compounds on regeneration in Podarke obscura

open access: yesProtoplasma, 1931
From his studies on the toxicity of Pb ions in cell division in onion root tips, which he explained on the basis of the binding and eliminating of a SH-group, and from his experiments designed to show the effect of SH-groups on rate of growth depending on cell multiplication, as in growing onion root tips, Paramecia cultures, and healing of wounds ...

Donkwa Enriched With Goron‐Tula (Azanza garckeana) Modulates Sexual Behavior and Activity of Enzymes Linked With Erectile Dysfunction in High‐Fat Diets/ Streptozotocin‐Induced (STZ/HFD) Diabetic Rats

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
(A) Mount number, (B) mount latency, (C) intromission number, and (D) intromission latency are the parameters of sexual behavior. Met = metformin. D100 = 100 Donkwa. D90G10 = 90% Donkwa + 10% Goron‐Tula. D85G15 = 85% Donkwa + 15% Goron‐Tula. D80G20 = 80% Donkwa + 20% Goron‐Tula. The mean ± standard error of the mean (SEM) expressed the results. *Values

Changes in sulfhydryl groups of honeybee glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase associated with generation of the intermediate plateau in its saturation kinetics [PDF]

open access: yes
Honeybee and rabbit muscle GPDH were studied to obtain information at the chemical level regarding anomolous saturation kinetics of the honeybee enzyme. Results demonstrate that the enzyme's sulfhydryl groups are implicated in the process.

Nitrosylation of Myoglobin and Nitrosation of Cysteine by Nitrite in a Model System Simulating Meat Curing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Demand is growing for meat products cured without the addition of sodium nitrite. Instead of the direct addition of nitrite to meat in formulation, nitrite is supplied by bacterial reduction of natural nitrate often added as vegetable juice/powder ...

Identification of Key Volatile Compounds in Tilapia during Air Frying Process by Quantitative Gas Chromatography–Ion Mobility Spectrometry

open access: yesMolecules
Air frying as a new roasting technology has potential for roasted fish production. In this study, the changes in volatile compounds (VCs) during air frying of tilapia were studied by quantitative gas chromatography–ion mobility spectrometry, followed by ...

Recent progress on stimuli‐responsive chitosan‐based biomaterials as drug carriers

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
This review discusses the recent progress in chitosan‐based drug delivery systems that respond to pH, redox, enzymes, reactive oxygen species, and combined stimuli. It examines design strategies, key mechanisms, and therapeutic applications, and also addresses current challenges while suggesting future approaches to enhance clinical translation and ...

Subchronic Exposure to Arsenic and Nickel Triggers Nitrosative Stress and Histological Alterations in the Rat Liver

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Environmental exposure to heavy metals poses a threat to human health. Several studies documented harmful effects on the liver after arsenic and nickel exposure at concentrations beyond permissible limits. Nevertheless, the impact of a simultaneous exposure to both elements on hepatic biochemistry and histology remains unelucidated. Therefore,

Exploring the Chemical Complexity and Toxicological Behaviour of Semi‐permanent Make‐Up Pigments: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Semi‐permanent make‐up (SPMU), or micropigmentation, involves implanting pigments into the dermal layer of the skin for cosmetic enhancement. Unlike topical cosmetics, which are rapidly cleared from the body, SPMU pigments persist in living tissues, raising unique toxicological considerations.
