Sulfonylurea receptors and ATP-sensitive K+ channels in clonal pancreatic alpha cells. Evidence for two high affinity sulfonylurea receptors

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1993
We tested for the presence of sulfonylurea receptors in pancreatic alpha cells. Two high affinity sulfonylurea receptors were identified in clonal pancreatic alpha cells (alpha TC-6): a 140-kDa species observed previously in clonal pancreatic beta cells (HIT) and a second 150-kDa protein.

Effects of Sulfonylureas on Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor γ Activity and on Glucose Uptake by Thiazolidinediones [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes & Metabolism Journal, 2011
BackgroundSulfonylurea primarily stimulates insulin secretion by binding to its receptor on the pancreatic β-cells. Recent studies have suggested that sulfonylureas induce insulin sensitivity through peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ ...

The effects of incretin mimetics on the level of the microbial metabolite trimethylamine-N-oxide, a marker of cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetic patients

open access: yesMìžnarodnij Endokrinologìčnij Žurnal, 2023
Background. The purpose was to investigate the effect of therapy with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1ra) on the serum concentration of trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO), an intestinal microbiome metabolite, in patients with type 2 diabetes ...

Transmembrane Topology of the Sulfonylurea Receptor SUR1 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2001
Sulfonylurea receptors (SURx) are multi-spanning transmembrane proteins of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) family, which associate with Kir6.x to form ATP-sensitive potassium channels. Two models, with 13-17 transmembrane segments, have been proposed for SURx topologies.

An endogenous ligand for the central sulfonylurea receptor [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1988
An endogenous ligand for the rat central sulfonylurea receptor has been evidenced in the rat central nervous system. The characteristics of this ligand (extractibility, non‐dialysability, chromatographic behaviour on different media, sensitivity to proteases) indicate that it is a neutral to slightly basic peptide.

The ATPase activities of sulfonylurea receptor 2A and sulfonylurea receptor 2B are influenced by the C‐terminal 42 amino acids [PDF]

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, 2010
Unusually among ATP‐binding cassette proteins, the sulfonylurea receptor (SUR) acts as a channel regulator. ATP‐sensitive potassium channels are octameric complexes composed of four pore‐forming Kir6.2 subunits and four regulatory SUR subunits. Two different genes encode SUR1 (ABCC8) and SUR2 (ABCC9), with the latter being differentially spliced to ...

Optimization of therapy of type 2 diabetes mellitus with the oral hypoglycemic agent glimepiride

open access: yesСахарный диабет, 2010
Type 2 diabetes is believed to develop as a result of lowered insulin secretion and insulin resistance leading to hyperglycemia. Sulfonylureas stimulateinsulin secretion and thereby decrease blood glucose level which accounts for their wide application ...

Investigation of Extrapancreatic Effects of Glipizide, A Second Generation Sulfonylurea Drug, by Using Insulin Clearance and Euglycaemic Clamp Technique

open access: yesEndocrinology Research and Practice, 2022
The mechanism of the hypoglycaemic action of sulfonylurea agents remains controversial, in spite of the fact that they have been widely used in the clinical management of patients with NIDDM. in this study, we used insulin clearance and euglycaemic clamp
