Mesophases in Nearly 2D Room-Temperature Ionic Liquids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Computer simulations of (i) a [C12mim][Tf2N] film of nanometric thickness squeezed at kbar pressure by a piecewise parabolic confining potential reveal a mesoscopic in-plane density and composition modulation reminiscent of mesophases seen in 3D samples ...

Surface melting of methane and methane film on magnesium oxide

open access: yes, 2000
Experiments on surface melting of several organic materials have shown contradictory results. We study the Van der Waals interactions between interfaces in surface melting of the bulk CH_4 and interfacial melting of the CH_4 film on the MgO substrate ...

Formulation of solid dispersion and surface solid dispersion of nifedipine: A comparative study

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2013
In this study, an attempt was taken to enhance the solubility and dissolution characteristics of nifedipine, a poorly water soluble calcium channel blocking agent, by preparing solid dispersions (SD) with water soluble carriers; Poloxamer 407, HPMC 5 cPs, polyethylene glycol (PEG) 4000 and 6000 and surface solid dispersions (SSD) with insoluble ...

Ultrafast nonlinear optical response of Dirac fermions in graphene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The speed of solid-state electronic devices, determined by the temporal dynamics of charge carriers, could potentially reach unprecedented petahertz frequencies through direct manipulation by optical fields, consisting in a million-fold increase from ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Exploiting the Hierarchical Morphology of Single-Walled and Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube Films for Highly Hydrophobic Coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Self-assembled hierarchical solid surfaces are very interesting for wetting phenomena, as observed in a variety of natural and artificial surfaces. Here, we report single-walled (SWCNT) and multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) thin films realized by a ...

Enhancement of Dissolution of Telmisartan by Surface Solid Dispersion Technique

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Research, 2012
Telmisartan is an Angiotensin Receptor Blocker (ARB) used for the treatment of hypertension. It belongs to BCS class-II i.e. low solubility and high permeability and exhibits variable bioavailability. The objective of the present study was to prepare surface solid dispersions of telmisartan to improve its aqueous solubility and dissolution rate.

Introduction of Side Chains into Polyglycine Dispersed on Solid Surface. I [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, 1956
Abstract 1) Polyglycine dispersed on the surface of kaolinite was prepared by the polycondensation of N-carboxylic anhydride or glycine ester on kaolinite. 2) It was concluded that a part of glycyl residues in polyglycine dispersed on kaolinite was easily converted to seryl or threonyl residues by the ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
