Structural plasticity of synaptic connectivity in the adult hippocampal mossy fiber projection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The brain has the lifelong ability to change itself based on new experiences such as learning and memory. This so called neuronal plasticity is reflected in the brain by structural and functional modifications which underlie our ability to learn ...

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Morphological plasticity of astroglia: Understanding synaptic microenvironment

open access: yes, 2015
Memory formation in the brain is thought to rely on the remodeling of synaptic connections which eventually results in neural network rewiring. This remodeling is likely to involve ultrathin astroglial protrusions which often occur in the immediate ...

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Postsynaptic protein kinase a reduces neuronal excitability in response to increased synaptic excitation in the Drosophila CNS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Previous work has identified a role for synaptic activity in the development of excitable properties of motoneurons in the Drosophila embryo. In this study the underlying mechanism that enables two such neurons, termed aCC and RP2, to respond to ...

Averaging Transformations of Synaptic Potentials on Networks

open access: yes, 2009
The problem of the transformation of microscopic information to the macroscopic level is an intriguing challenge in computational neuroscience, but also of general mathematical importance.

Associations of cerebrospinal fluid measures of synaptic function with white matter microstructure and cognition in older adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience
IntroductionLower levels of several synaptic proteins in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have been associated with greater cognitive decline among older adults, but there is limited understanding of their associations with brain structure.

Immunohistochemistry of synaptic proteins for synaptic exocytosis

open access: yesScripta Scientifica Medica, 2013
The synaptic proteins synaptobrevin/VAMP, SNAP-25, Syntaxin1, NSF and α-SNAP were revealed by means of immunocytochemistry. Materials from the cerebral cortex of adult, newborn and postnatal rats (P6 and P11) were used. Immunostaining for synaptobrevin/VAMP was mainly around the synaptic vesicles, whereas the immunolabeling for SNAP-25 and syntaxin1 ...
