Liposome formation from synthetic polyhydroxyl lipids
The preparation of liposomes from synthetic dialkyl amphiphiles is described. Two of these lipids were synthesised with mixed chains of 18:0,14:0 and 18:0,22:0 and one contained two identical alkyl chains of 18:0,18:0.

Structural and functional stability of the sulfur-free surfactant protein B peptide mimic B-YL in synthetic surfactant lipids [PDF]
Background Optimal functionality of synthetic lung surfactant for treatment of respiratory distress syndrome in preterm infants largely depends on the quality and quantity of the surfactant protein B (SP-B) peptide mimic and the lipid mixture.

EPR Studies on the Properties of Model Photoreceptor Membranes Made of Natural and Synthetic Lipids. [PDF]
The membranes of retina photoreceptors have unique lipid composition. They contain a high concentration of polyunsaturated docosahexaenoic acid, with six double bonds, and are enriched in phosphatidylethanolamines. Based on their phospholipid composition

Ornithine lipids and other acyloxyacyl amino lipids: the coming-of-age story of a group of non-canonical membrane lipids. [PDF]
Ornithine lipids (OLs) are phosphorus-free membrane lipids present in many bacteria, but absent from eukaryotes and archaea. Three pathways for OL synthesis have been reported to date. Conditions that induce OL synthesis include elevated temperature, low

Lipid sponge droplets as programmable synthetic organelles [PDF]
Significance Organelles spatially and temporally orchestrate biochemical reactions in a cell to a degree of precision that is still unattainable in synthetic reaction systems. Additionally, organelles such as the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contain highly interconnected and dense membrane networks that provide large reaction spaces for
