A Review on Adventitious Lactic Acid Bacteria from Table Olives

open access: yesFoods, 2020
Spontaneous fermentation constitutes the basis of the chief natural method of processing of table olives, where autochthonous strains of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) play a dominant role.

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Human Gut Bacteria and Lipidic Nanoparticles: Particle Composition Predicts Structural Transformation and Bacterial Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipidic nanoparticles (LNPs) were incubated with 21 gut bacteria frequently associated with the human microbiome. SAXS revealed that ∼75% of tested species induced structural transformations in monoolein LNPs, whereas phytantriol and phospholipid formulations remained unaffected.

Dataset_Mechanical harvesting at dawn in a super-high-density table olive orchard. Effect on the quality of fruits

open access: yes, 2023
The olive tree is well adapted to the Mediterranean climate, however, the current increase in temperature as a consequence of the global warming affects the phenological stages and can accelerate the ripening of the fruits, moving the harvesting to ...

Progress on green table olive processing with KOH and wastewaters reuse for agricultural purposes.

open access: yesScience of the Total Environment, 2020
Table olive wastewaters are seriously polluting and a difficult to treat effluent worldwide, mainly due to their high content in sodium. An alternative approach could be the treatment of the olives with KOH instead of NaOH, in order to reuse the olive ...

Mechanically Programmable DNA Hydrogel Microparticles for 3D Cellular Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
DNA hydrogel microparticles are designed to exhibit controllable viscoelasticity and stiffness across three orders of magnitude from 30Pa$30 \,\mathrm{Pa}$ to 6.5kPa$6.5 \,\mathrm{kPa}$. They are uptaken into fibroblast spheroids where they are actively remodeled by cellular forces depending on their mechanical properties.

Content of Biogenic Amines in Table Olives

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 2000
Content of biogenic amines in flesh and brines of table olives was determined by high-pressure liquid chromatography analysis of their benzoyl derivatives. No biogenic amines were found in the flesh of fresh fruits at any stage of ripeness. Contents of biogenic amines in Spanish-style green or stored olives increased throughout the brining period but ...

Switchable Magnonic Crystals Based on Spin Crossover/CrSBr Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale modeling is employed to investigate the functionality of a light‐controlled, tunable magnonic crystal based on spin‐crossover Fe‐pz molecules integrated with a monolayer of CrSBr. Ab initio simulations confirm that the molecules remain functional on the CrSBr surface, while a semiclassical elastic model demonstrates that light‐induced ...

Characterization and engineering of Bacillus megaterium AS-35, for use in biodegradation of processed olive wastewater [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Philosophiae Doctor - PhDThe popularization and health benefits associated with the "Mediterranean diet" saw a world wide increase in the production and consumption of processed olives and olive oil. During the brining of table olives large quantities of
