Metabolic Assessment in Human Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Cerebral Organoids Using HR‐MAS NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 8, August 2026.
We present a direct method for evaluating metabolism in intact hPSC‐derived cerebral organoids (COs) via HR‐MAS 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. This approach suggests that COs exhibit a metabolic profile similar to in vivo human fetal brain, with high levels of lactate and hTau, low levels of NAA, and equimolar levels of Glu and Gln.

Effect of Radical Initiators on the Rheological Properties and Toughness of Poly(Lactic Acid)/Poly(3‐Hydroxybutyrate‐Co‐4‐Hydroxybutyrate) Blends

open access: yesPolymer Engineering &Science, Volume 66, Issue 8, Page 5974-5987, August 2026.
Effect of mixing protocol on the size distribution of PHA domains in the PLA matrix. ABSTRACT In this study, poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐4‐hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB‐4HB), a type of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA)], were melt‐blended at an 80/20 (wt/wt) ratio, and radical initiators were employed as reactive compatibilizers to enhance

Theory‐Guided Low‐Speed Centrifugation for High‐Purity Boron Nitride Nanotubes

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 8, August 2026.
This study presents a theory‐guided, low‐speed centrifugation strategy for boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) purification, compatible with various surfactant systems. The method selectively removes impurities while preserving nanotube integrity and length.

Analytical Ultracentrifugation in Aotearoa: A Brief History of the Technique and its Place Among Other Tools Used to Investigate Biomolecular Interactions

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Volume 56, Issue 4, August 2026.
Analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) is a powerful and versatile tool for studying biomolecular interactions. The purpose of this commentary is to provide foundational knowledge of the technique and its uses through the presentation of two case studies in which AUC provides key data to answer research questions.

Modeling Odorant–Receptor Contacts: Interactions of Carvone With Ethanol and Phenol as Amino Acid Side‐Chain Mimics

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
The non‐covalent interactions of the odorant carvone with ethanol and phenol, as amino acid analogs of serine and tyrosine, have been characterized by high‐resolution rotational spectroscopy and quantum chemistry calculations. Non‐covalent interactions play a fundamental role in molecular recognition and receptor‐ligand binding, being vital in ...
