Hybrid Biofabrication of a Hierarchically Organized Periosteum‐Inspired In Vitro Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid biofabrication strategy integrates melt electrowriting with extrusion‐based 3D bioprinting to create a hierarchically organized periosteum‐inspired in vitro platform. Spatially defined osteogenic, fibrous, and endothelial cell‐containing compartments support long‐term culture, osteogenic maturation, and CD31+ endothelial cell organization ...

Magnetoactive Hydrogels to Probe Curvature‐Directed Endothelial Cell Mechanosensing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work establishes a platform to investigate local curvature as a regulator of endothelial mechanosensing independent of shear stress. Magnetoactive hydrogels enable on‐demand curvature of endothelial monolayers to reproduce tortuosity quantified by clinically established metrics.

Modeling Early Metastatic Progression in Breast Cancer Using a Barrier‐Free, Perfusable Spheroid‐on‐a‐Chip Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Open‐port, barrier‐free microfluidic device for modeling early metastatic progression. A centrally positioned tumor spheroid releases invasive cells that migrate through the surrounding matrix and intravasate into endothelialized lateral channels.

Ferroelectric Quantum Dots for Retinomorphic In‐Sensor Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work has provided a protocol for fabricating retinomorphic phototransistors by integrating ferroelectric ligands with quantum dots. The resulting device combines ferroelectricity, optical responsiveness, and low‐power operation to enable adaptive signal amplification and high recognition accuracy under low‐light conditions, while supporting ...

Hydrogel‐Based Airway‐on‐Tube With Perfusable Endothelial Lumen and Outward Epithelialization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel‐based airway‐on‐tube platform featuring a perfusable endothelial lumen and outward epithelialization is presented. The system supports primary human bronchial epithelial and lung microvascular endothelial coculture under air‐liquid interface conditions.

Tail-suspension Induces Altered Expression of GAPDH and ZAKI-4β mRNAs in Rat Hindlimbs : Implication for Disuse Muscle Atrophy

open access: yes
2003-12Disuse atrophy of skeletal muscle is a serious complication for a number of bed-ridden patients. We previously demonstrated that unloading of hindlimb muscles by rat tail-suspension for 7 days resulted in disuse atrophy.

Rational Tuning of Hygroscopic Oscillation of Stacked Nanoflake Assemblies for Continuous Ambient Energy Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Stacked nanoflake assembly (SNA) membranes can oscillate autonomously, offering opportunities for soft actuation and energy harvesting. This work uncovers the physical mechanism behind the sustained oscillation of SNA membranes in gradient humidity and identifies three governing dimensionless parameters, enabling rational design for optimizing SNA ...

Evaluation of the Antidepressant Potential of Triplochiton scleroxylon Leaf Extract Using Tail Suspension and Forced Swim Tests

open access: yesRecent Trends in Pharmacology
Objective: Depression is a major neuropsychiatric disorder with a substantial global burden. Existing pharmacotherapies are limited by delayed onset of action, incomplete response, and adverse effects, necessitating the exploration of alternative ...

Talking tails : quantifying the development of tail biting in pigs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Tail biting is an adverse behaviour characterised by manipulation of a pig’s tail by another pig resulting in tail damage and a possible tail biting outbreak. Tail biting is a common problem in the pig husbandry causing economic losses and reduced animal
