Tanshinone IIA sodium sulfonate facilitates endocytic HMGB1 uptake [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Pharmacology, 2012
Our seminal discovery of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) as a late mediator of lethal systemic inflammation has prompted a new field of investigation for the development of experimental therapeutics. We previously reported that a major Danshen ingredient, tanshinone IIA sodium sulfonate (TSN-SS), selectively inhibited endotoxin-induced HMGB1 release ...

Danshensu Ethyl Ester Induces Ferroptosis Through Targeted Inhibition of SLC7A11 Transport Function in NSCLC

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, Volume 17, Issue 8, April 2026.
Danshensu ethyl ester (DEE) promotes ferroptosis by targeting and inhibiting the transport function of SLC7A11, independent of the p53 pathway, thereby inhibiting NSCLC. DEE reduces intracellular cysteine and glutathione (GSH) levels, while increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA), thereby triggering ferroptosis.

Tanshinone IIA pretreatment attenuates hepatic ischemia-reperfusion

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2012
Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA), an active component derived from Salvia miltiorrhiza root, has been used to treat various ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, its impact on hepatic ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury remains unclear. Here, we addressed this issue by using a 90-minute partial liver ischemia model.

Effects of the coexisting diterpenoid tanshinones on the pharmacokinetics of cryptotanshinone and tanshinone IIA in rat

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2007
Tanshinone II(A) and cryptotanshinone are the main pharmacologically active components in the Chinese herb drug Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of coexisting tanshinones in liposoluble ethanol extract of S. miltiorrhiza Bge.

Metabolic origins and transport of vitamin e biosynthetic precursors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tocochromanols are organic compounds mostly produced by photosynthetic organisms that exhibit vitamin E activity in animals. They result from the condensation of homogentisate with four different polyprenyl side chains derived all from geranylgeranyl ...

From Synthesis to Therapeutics: Bioactive‐Coated Zein Nanoparticles in Drug Delivery

open access: yesBiopolymers, Volume 117, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Polymeric zein nanoparticles (ZNP), derived from corn protein, are biodegradable drug carriers with high stability and low synthesis costs. Their amphiphilic nature allows efficient encapsulation of both hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs, making them promising for drug delivery.
