Tanshinone IIA inhibits hypoxia-induced pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell proliferation via Akt/Skp2/p27-associated pathway. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
We previously showed that tanshinone IIA ameliorated the hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension (HPH) partially by attenuating pulmonary artery remodeling.

Preclinical and clinical examinations of Salvia miltiorrhiza and its tanshinones in ischemic conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Salvia miltiorrhiza (Labiatae, Laminaceae), danshen, is an annual sage mainly found in China and neighboring countries. The crude drug (dried root) and its preparations are currently used in China to treat patients suffering from heart attack, angina ...

Tanshinone IIA protects against dopaminergic neuron degeneration via regulation of DJ-1 and Nrf2/HO-1 pathways in a rodent model of Parkinson’s disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Purpose: To study the potential neuroprotective effects of tanshinone IIA, a diterpene quinone, in an experimental model of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced Parkinson disease (PD).

Tanshinone IIA attenuates the stemness of breast cancer cells via targeting the miR-125b/STARD13 axis

open access: yesExperimental Hematology & Oncology, 2022
Background Tanshinone II A is an effective component extracted from Salvia miltiorrhiza and the roles of Tanshinone IIA in regulating the stemness of tumor cells remain unclear.

Cryptotanshinone but not tanshinone IIA inhibits angiogenesis in vitro [PDF]

open access: yesExperimental & Molecular Medicine, 2005
In the course of screening of angiogenesis inhibitor from natural products, cryptotanshinone from Salvia miltiorrhiza was isolated as a potent small molecule inhibitor of angiogenesis. Cryptotanshinone inhibits bFGF-induced angiogenesis of BAECs at ten micromolar ranges in vitro without cytotoxicity.

Combining Metabolomics and Transcriptomics to Characterize Tanshinone Biosynthesis in Salvia Miltiorrhiza [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Plant natural products have been co-opted for millennia by humans for various uses such as flavor, fragrances, and medicines. These compounds often are only produced in relatively low amounts and are difficult to chemically synthesize, limiting access ...

Targeting survivin with Tanshinone IIA inhibits tumor growth and overcomes chemoresistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2023
The inhibitor of apoptosis protein survivin has a critical regulatory role in carcinogenesis and treatment tolerance in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the targeted drugs for survivin protein are extremely limited.
