Role of Taxoids in Head and Neck Cancer [PDF]

open access: yesThe Oncologist, 2000
Abstract Docetaxel and paclitaxel represent a new class of cytotoxic agents having both a specific chemical structure and mechanism of action. They act to promote tubulin polymerization and the formation of stable microtubules. The microtubules produced in the presence of taxoids are resistant to disassembly by physiologic stimuli, and ...

Response of Patients with Taxane‐Refractory Advanced Urothelial Cancer to Enfortumab Vedotin, a Microtubule‐Disrupting Agent

open access: yesCase Reports in Urology, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Enfortumab vedotin (EV), a nectin‐4‐directed antibody conjugated to monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE), has been approved for patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma (aUC) previously treated with platinum‐based chemotherapy and immune inhibitors. Taxane agents and MMAE share antitumor mechanisms through microtubule disruption, thus raising a notable ...

Perspective of a new diagnostic for human trichomonosis

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2003
Several diagnostic techniques have been employed for the detection of Trichomonas vaginalis. Microtubules constitute the cytoskeleton in eukaryotic cells and are sensitive to antimitotic drugs, such as Taxol (paclitaxel).

Fluorescent taxoids

open access: yesChemistry & Biology, 1996
Taxol is a natural product produced by the Pacific Yew, Taxus brevifolia, that has emerged as a prominent chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of solid tumors. Taxol's biochemical mode of action has been well studied: it binds to microtubules, stabilizing them and preventing their depolymerization to tubulin subunits.

Activities and Molecular Mechanisms of Diterpenes, Diterpenoids, and Their Derivatives in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Diterpenes and their derivatives have many biological activities, including anti‐inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. To date, several diterpenes, diterpenoids, and their laboratory‐derived products have been demonstrated for antiarthritic activities.

Transcriptome analyses provide insights into the expression pattern and sequence similarity of several taxol biosynthesis-related genes in three Taxus species

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2019
Background Taxol is an efficient anticancer drug; however, the accumulation of taxoids can vary hugely among Taxus species. The mechanism underlying differential accumulation of taxoids is largely unknown. Thus, comparative analysis of the transcriptomes

Prostate cancer stem cell-targeted efficacy of a new-generation taxoid, SBT-1214 and novel polyenolic zinc-binding curcuminoid, CMC2.24. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men. Multiple evidence suggests that a population of tumor-initiating, or cancer stem cells (CSCs) is responsible for cancer development and exceptional drug resistance, representing a ...

Direct visualization of the microtubular cytoskeleton of ciliated protozoa with a fluorescent taxoid

open access: yes, 2021
Visualization of the infraciliature, which is an essential tool for the identification of ciliate species, has traditionally been obtained with silver proteinate methods.
