Cytogenotoxic Effects of Fluopyram in Allium cepa Root Cells Involving Microtubule Disruption

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fluopyram is a next‐generation fungicide widely used in agriculture; however, its persistence in soils and mobility toward aquatic systems have raised concerns regarding potential ecotoxicological risks. This study evaluated the cytogenotoxic effects of a commercial fluopyram‐based pesticide formulation on Allium cepa root meristem cells ...

Cross-sectional and longitudinal study of association between circulating thiobarbituric acid-reacting substance levels and clinicobiochemical parameters in 1,178 middle-aged Japanese men - the Amagasaki Visceral Fat Study

open access: yesNutrition & Metabolism, 2011
Background Circulating thiobarbituric acid-reacting substance (TBARS) levels, a marker of systemic oxidative stress, are predictive of cardiovascular events.

Oxidative Damage, Energy Imbalance, and Behavioral Disruptions in Girardia tigrina Exposed to Treated Sewage Effluents

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study assessed the ecotoxicological effects of treated sewage on the freshwater planarian Girardia tigrina, integrating biochemical, energetic, and behavioral biomarkers. Planarians were exposed for 48 h to different concentrations of treated sewage (12.5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%) and compared to controls using commercial water and water from

Elevated UV‐B alters anti‐herbivore plant defence allocation, while silicon supplementation maintains resistance

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The impacts of elevated surface ultraviolet‐B (UV‐B) on ecological processes, such as anti‐herbivore defence in plants, remain poorly understood. Many cereal crops depend on accumulating silicon (Si) in their tissues to resist insect herbivory.

Activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and concentration of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in liver and muscles of some fish

open access: yes, 2005
In this study we examined superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) concentration in liver and muscles of four fish species: the carp, the brown trout, the white cod and the flounder.

Role of human RNase 7 in neuronal and glial cell models: moving towards an unexpected new functional link

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Human RNase 7 is known to exert antimicrobial activity in epithelial tissues. Here, using SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG, neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell lines, respectively, we found that RNase 7 enhances immune responses to LPS stimulation by reducing the expression of pro‐inflammatory cytokines, nitric oxide, and ROS.

Air exposure test in Colossoma macropomum juveniles maintained in water at suboptimal temperature: Physiological, metabolic and oxidative stress responses

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study evaluated the physiological, metabolic and oxidative responses of Colossoma macropomum subjected to air exposure when maintained in water at suboptimal temperature (23°C). A total of 54 fish (81.33 ± 11.90 g) were distributed into nine tanks (6 fish per tank). For the air exposure test, 24 animals were exposed for 30 min and another
