A Reconfigurable Memristive Spiking Neuron Enabling Advanced Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pek Jun Tiw and co‐workers develop a reconfigurable memristive neuron that can exhibit four spiking behaviors with freely tunable spike train parameters. The neuron supports multiplexed spike encoding of multiple pieces of information. It also supports advanced neural network strategies, such as neural heterogeneity and dynamic mode switching ...

Mathematics teacher educators’ and pre-service teachers’ beliefs about the use of technology in teaching in an African university [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study examines beliefs held by mathematics teacher educators and pre‐service teachers about the usefulness and teacher educators’ belief on ease of use of computers in teaching in an Ethiopian teacher education University. It also identifies teacher

Osseoperceptive EMG Feedback Improves Grasp Force Control in Myoelectric Prosthetic Hands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Osseoperception is explored as a non‐invasive pathway for delivering sensory feedback in myoelectric prosthetic control. By encoding the user's electromyographic (EMG) signal through bone‐conducted stimulation, this approach enables predictive grasp force regulation.

Graphic Communications Teachers' Concerns and Beliefs Regarding Their Online Teaching of Graphic Communications Hands-On Classes

open access: yes, 2016
Previous literature has exposed the impact of concerns and beliefs on a teacher's decision to adopt online teaching methods, and in particular for Graphic Communications teachers, the extent to which their concerns and beliefs influence whether or not ...

Optimized Cas9‐Enriched Nanopore Sequencing and Analysis Workflow for Clinical Diagnosis of Repeat Expansion Disorders

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An optimized Cas9‐enriched nanopore sequencing workflow, combined with STRiker, enables simultaneous analysis of disease‐associated STR loci from patient blood. The nCATS–STRiker workflow detects repeat expansions, de novo repeat motifs, interruption patterns, and methylation in a single assay, improving the genetic diagnosis of previously undiagnosed ...

Deubiquitination of Vangl by USP6 and USP32 Regulates Planar Cell Polarity Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Compartment‐specific deubiquitination controls Vangl dosage and planar cell polarity signaling. USP6 and USP32 regulate distinct subcellular pools of Vangl by removing distinct ubiquitin modifications from Vangl proteins. This regulatory mechanism safeguards PCP‐dependent embryonic morphogenesis, while aberrant USP32‐dependent stabilization of VANGL ...

Abstract Representation of Movement Parameters in Basal Ganglia Output

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The basal ganglia output provides a scalable velocity/position signal across behavioral contexts, supporting the idea that these variables are represented in the brain as abstract entities rather than as fixed changes in joint angles or specific sets of body effectors.

Probing the Energy Landscape of α‐Synuclein Amyloid Fibril Formation by Systematic K‐to‐Q Mutagenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We use lysine‐to‐glutamine mutations to study the effect of electrostatics on the kinetics and thermodynamics of alpha‐synuclein amyloid fibril formation. We find that mutational effects map on their structural context within fibrils and identify residues that modulate the energy landscape of alpha‐synuclein self‐assembly. Our work outlines a scalable,

Brain Network Dynamics of Local and Global Predictive Processing in Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Separation of concurrent whole‐brain networks in source‐reconstructed magnetoencephalography (MEG) data suggests that healthy aging reorganizes, rather than uniformly attenuates, neural responses elicited from hierarchical auditory violations. Enhanced early sensory deviance processing alongside reduced higher‐order cognitive responses suggests a large‐

Enhanced Acoustic Adhesion Enabling Agile and Small Wall‐Climbing Robot Design With Anisotropic Origami Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This 28 g robot incorporates innovative ring structures and anisotropic origami springs to achieve high speeds and exceptional load capacity. It successfully carries a 100 g payload while ascending walls or ceilings at speeds of up to 8 and 20 cm/s, demonstrating enhanced adhesion and maneuverability over current climbing robots.
