A New 3D Colon on a Chip to Decipher the Influence of Mechanical Forces on the Physiological Cellular Ecosystem

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To dissect how mechanical forces influence intestinal physiology, we developed a stretchable 3D colon‐on‐chip that integrates tunable topography, stiffness and peristalsis‐like motion within a physiologically relevant microenvironment. We showed that stretching is a dominant factor governing epithelial behavior, markedly enhancing proliferation and ...

Pronunciation teaching in minority languages: perspectives of elementary school teachers in a Chinese-English bilingual program in Canada

open access: yesCogent Education
Despite an increasing interest in pronunciation instruction in English as a majority language or international lingua franca, less is known about pronunciation learning in non-English minority languages, especially among child learners.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Asymmetry of the Ferroelectric Phase Transition in BaTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Phase transitions are typically assumed to behave identically in forward and reverse. This work shows that in the ferroelectric material barium titanate this is not true: heating drives an abrupt, first‐order jump, while cooling gives a smooth, continuous change.

CONSIDERAŢII PRIVIND IMPORTANŢA PREDĂRII PRONUNŢIEI CELOR CARE ÎNVAŢĂ LIMBA ENGLEZĂ CA LIMBĂ STRĂINĂ

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Moldaviae: Stiinte Umanistice, 2010
In the past pronunciation was not one of the main concerns of language teaching. Taking into account the Communicative Approach which took hold in the 1980s and is currently dominant in language teaching, using language to communicate should be central ...

Porous Hybrid Soft Actuators From Liquid Crystal Networks and Lyotropic Chromonic Liquid Crystal Templated Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The graphic illustrates the design of a hybrid bilayer composed of a liquid crystal hydrogel (LCH) and a liquid crystal network (LCN). The figure highlights the magnetic alignment of the chromonic hydrogel and the thermal‐responsive actuation of the LCN along with the LCH when both layers are aligned or misaligned, enabling programmable, light‐driven ...
