Mechanism of resistance to terbinafine in two isolates of Ustilago maydis

Abstract Terbinafine, an antimycotic of the allylamine class, strongly inhibited growth ( I 50 = 0.019 μg/ml) and ergosterol biosynthesis ( I 50 = 0.005 μg/ml) in wild-type (WT) Ustilago maydis sporidia by inhibiting squalene epoxidase activity in the sterol biosynthetic pathway.

background: Over the past decade there has been a rapid emergence of a new dermatophyte species Trichophyton indotineae (T. indotineae) in the Indian subcontinent, with associated global spread.
