We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Tigecycline resistance tet(X3) gene is going wild
The emergence of mobile Tigecycline-resistant tet(X3) and tet(X4) is believed to be a global threat to public health. Here, we investigated the prevalence of tet(X3) and tet(X4) in our metagenomic data of migratory birds. While tet(X4) was not identified

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is one of the commonest disorders in adult males and affects 12–19% of men of reproductive age. Only few studies have evaluated the impact of ED on men and couples with infertility—these studies report higher rates of ED in this

dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Marine aquaculture fish and the environment are possible hot spots for the maintenance and spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). We here show the time courses of changes of six tetracycline resistance genes (tet) in fish rearing seawater and fish

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

In vivo manipulation of interleukin-2 expression by a retroviral tetracycline (tet)-regulated system [PDF]
We have used the tetracycline (tet)-regulated system as described previously to evaluate the applicability of controlled gene expression in cancer gene therapy. As a model gene, we used the human interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene, which has been placed under the

Single-chain Tet transregulators [PDF]
We demonstrate here that the Tet repressor (TetR), a dimeric allosterical regulatory protein, can be converted to a fully functional monomer when connected by a 29 amino acid linker. TetR-based transregulators are widely used to regulate gene expression in eukaryotes.

Beyond the Edge: Charge‐Transfer Excitons in Organic Donor‐Acceptor Cocrystals
Complex excitonic landscapes in acene–perfluoroacene cocrystals are unveiled by polarization‐resolved optical spectroscopy and many‐body theory. This systematic study of a prototypical model system for weakly interacting donor–acceptor compounds challenges common views of charge‐transfer excitons, providing a refined conceptual framework for ...

Emergence of a tet(M) Variant Conferring Resistance to Tigecycline in Streptococcus suis
The aim of this study was to gain insight into the resistance determinants conferring resistance to tigecycline in Streptococcus (S.) suis and to investigate the genetic elements involved in their horizontal transfer. A total of 31 tetracycline-resistant
