Tetracycline Resistant Campylobacter jejuni Subtypes Emanating from Beef Cattle Administered Non-Therapeutic Chlortetracycline are Longitudinally Transmitted within the Production Continuum but are Not Detected in Ground Beef

open access: yes, 2019
The impacts of the antimicrobial growth promoter (AGP), chlortetracycline with sulfamethazine (AS700), on the development of antimicrobial resistance and longitudinal transmission of Campylobacter jejuni within the beef production continuum were ...

Multi‐Targeting Carnosic Acid Kills Drug‐Resistant Helicobacter pylori With Narrow‐Spectrum Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Carnosic acid selectively eradicates drug‐resistant Helicobacter pylori through a multi‐targeted mechanism involving urease inhibition, membrane disruption, and biofilm eradication. It exhibits no detectable resistance, potent in vivo efficacy, and minimal impact on gut microbiota, positioning it as a promising narrow‐spectrum lead compound against ...

Tetracycline Resistance Genes Identified from Distinct Soil Environments in China by Functional Metagenomics

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Soil microbiota represents one of the ancient evolutionary origins of antibiotic resistance and has been increasingly recognized as a potentially vast unstudied reservoir of resistance genes with possibilities to exchange with pathogens.

Molecular analysis of transferable tetracycline resistance plasmids from Clostridium perfringens

open access: yes, 1985
Conjugative tetracycline resistance plasmids from 15 Clostridium perfringens isolates from piggeries were analyzed by restriction endonuclease digestion and agarose gel electrophoresis. Seven isolates from one farm were found to carry a 47-kilobase pair (

Conformational Snapshots of CydDC in a Native Lipid Bilayer Coupling Heme Transport to Antibiotic Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phylogenetic and biochemical analyses of the heme transporter CydDC reveal its functional conservation throughout bacterial evolution and demonstrate its unique asymmetric allosteric mechanism. Furthermore, impairment of CydDC function directly affects bacterial antibiotic resistance and likely compromises antibiotic efficacy through drug efflux.

Quantifying tetracycline resistance

open access: yesInternational Conference on the Epidemiology and Control of Biological, Chemical and Physical Hazards in Pigs and Pork, 2003
This study’s goal was to evaluate the impact of sub-therapeutic feeding of chlortetracycline (CTC) on the fecal concentration of tet(C), a gene that confers tetracycline resistance via an efflux mechanism. We developed a real-time quantitative PCR assay to measure the quantity of tet(C) in whole fecal DNA samples.

Detection and characterisation of genes encoding antibiotic resistance in the cultivable oral microflora.

open access: yes, 2006
The emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has become a major threat to public health. The increased use of antibiotics has selected for the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes between organisms from different species and different genera ...

The effect of bambermycin, carbadox, chlortetracycline and olaquindox on antibiotic resistance in intestinal coliforms: a new animal model [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Groups of germ-free mice kept in isolators and associated with faecal microflora from piglets were continuously given either water or a solution of one of the following: chlortetracycline (20 micrograms/ml), carbadox (50 micrograms/ml), olaquindox (50 ...

Targeting Lipopolysaccharide Transport Induces Membrane Lipid Remodeling and Sensitizes Acinetobacter baumannii to Colistin Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies C4 as a lead inhibitor of the Lpt system. Notably, C4 potentiates colistin activity by disrupting LPS transport and remodeling phospholipid homeostasis, revealing a functional interplay between the Lpt and Mla systems. These findings establish a mechanistic link between Lpt inhibition and membrane lipid remodeling, positioning Lpt–

Biological microchip for assessing tetracycline-resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae clinical isolates in Russian Federation

open access: yesИнфекция и иммунитет, 2020
A total of 399 Neisseria gonorrhoeae clinical isolates collected in different regions of the Russian Federation in 20152017 were analyzed for tetracycline susceptibility and genetic markers of resistance.
