The Excelsatoxin A‐Receptor TMEM233 Modulates Nav1.8

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 6, 31 March 2026.
TMEM233 is a largely uncharacterized transmembrane protein that enables the sensitivity of Nav1.8 to Excelasatoxin A, a naturally occurring peptide that can significantly reduce the fast inactivation of this ion channel (left) expressed in sensory neurons or different cell lines. Moreover, its presence enhances the use dependent block of Nav1.8 induced

Regional and Developmental Differences in Na+ Currents in Vestibular Primary Afferent Neurons

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2018
The vestibular system relays information about head position via afferent nerve fibers to the brain in the form of action potentials. Voltage-gated Na+ channels in vestibular afferents drive the initiation and propagation of action potentials, but their ...

Enteric dysfunctions in experimental Parkinson's disease: alterations of excitatory cholinergic neurotransmission regulating colonic motility in rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Parkinson's disease (PD) is frequently associated with gastrointestinal symptoms, mostly represented by constipation and defecatory dysfunctions.

Electrostatic Contributions of Aromatic Residues in the Local Anesthetic Receptor of Voltage-Gated Sodium Channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Antiarrhythmics, anticonvulsants, and local anesthetics target voltage-gated sodium channels, decreasing excitability of nerve and muscle cells. Channel inhibition by members of this family of cationic, hydrophobic drugs relies on the presence of highly ...

Spatio‐Temporal Diversity of Calcium Activity in Microglia

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 3, March 2026.
Ca2+ activity mostly occurs in microglial processes and stays localized. When it spreads, it often shows a directional bias and is constrained by branch points. Activity strongly relies on P2Y12 receptors and is shaped by neuronal activity. ABSTRACT Microglia, the brain's innate immune cells, possess complex, highly motile branched processes. These act

Non‐Invasive, High‐Resolution (1H2O) Metabolic Activity Diffusion Imaging [MADI] of Rat Glioma

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 3, March 2026.
We employed Metabolic Activity Diffusion Imaging [MADI] and 18FDG‐PET in rats with syngeneic RG2 glioblastoma brain tumors. MADI quantifies kio (the cellular H2O efflux rate constant), cell volume (V), and cell density (ρ), without the use of contrast agents. The kioV product quantifies the rate of water efflux per cell.

Public Health Risks Associated with Tetrodotoxin and Its Analogues in European Waters: Recent Advances after The EFSA Scientific Opinion

open access: yesToxins, 2019
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) and its analogues are naturally occurring toxins responsible worldwide for human intoxication cases and fatalities, mainly associated with pufferfish consumption. In the last decade, TTXs were detected in marine bivalves and gastropods

The Influence of Tetrodotoxin (TTX) on the Distribution and Chemical Coding of Caudal Mesenteric Ganglion (CaMG) Neurons Supplying the Porcine Urinary Bladder

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2017
The treatment of micturition disorders creates a serious problem for urologists. Recently, new therapeutic agents, such as neurotoxins, are being considered for the therapy of urological patients.

Tetrodotoxin. VII. On the Structures of Tetrodotoxin and its Derivatives

open access: yesChemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1964
The structures of both tetrodonic acid hydrobromide and 6, 11-diacetylanhydrotetrodotoxin hydroiodide were established by chemical and X-ray crystallographical research. Based upon structures of both these salts and upon other chemical information, we determined that tetrodotoxin and anhydrotetrodotoxin have zwitterionic hemilactal structures.
