Endothelium‐ and epithelium‐derived novel endogenous catecholamines as modulators of the autonomic nervous system

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 15, Page 4091-4110, August 2026.
Abstract Catecholamines are classically viewed as neuronal transmitters and adrenal hormones; however, accumulating evidence demonstrates that sources other than nerve fibres and adrenal medulla play a fundamental role in local organ regulation. Physiological paradoxes, such as preserved organ function after denervation or transplantation, challenge a ...

Reconsidering the role of introduced species in the climate‐affected and highly invaded eastern Mediterranean

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Bioinvasions are considered mostly as a biodiversity and conservation hazard, but in specific situations, introduced species can bring ecological or socioeconomic benefits. We assessed the social–ecological role of marine introduced species in the eastern Mediterranean Sea—a global hotspot of bioinvasions and extirpations—and their potential ...

Tetrodotoxin: a brief history.

open access: yesProceedings of the Japan Academy. Series B, Physical and biological sciences, 2008
Tetrodotoxin (TTX), contained in puffer, has become an extremely popular chemical tool in the physiological and pharmacological laboratories since our discovery of its channel blocking action in the early 1960s. This brief review describes the history of discovery of TTX action on sodium channels, and represents a story primarily of my own work.
