Are the Milky Way and Andromeda unusual? A comparison with Milky Way and Andromeda analogues

open access: yes, 2020
Our Milky Way provides a unique test case for galaxy evolution models because of our privileged position within the Milky Way's disc. This position also complicates comparisons between the Milky Way and external galaxies, due to our inability to observe ...

The GALAH survey: velocity fluctuations in the Milky Way using red clump giants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
If the Galaxy is axisymmetric and in dynamical equilibrium, we expect negligible fluctuations in the residual line-of-sight velocity field. However, non-axisymmetric structures like a bar, spiral arms and merger events can generate velocity fluctuations.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Watching Our Galaxy Grow Up: The Mass and Color Evolution of the Milky Way

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Using our rich observations within the Milky Way to better understand galaxy evolution requires understanding what the Milky Way looks like “as a galaxy”—that is, its “true” shape and abundance profiles (unskewed by observational biases), signatures of ...

Ethical Evaluation of a Value Sensitive Persuasive System : Case Milky Way [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Although persuasive technology is about influencing individuals without coercion, deception, or manipulation, ethical issues still must be considered in designing persuasive systems.

Southern Milky Way Proof

open access: yes, 2021
The photographs are mostly of the Australian National University campus, including Mount Stromlo and Siding Spring. There are aerial photographs of the Acton site at different times, and photographs of events and portraits.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Rising from the Ashes: A Metallicity-dependent Star Formation Gap Splits the Milky Way’s α Sequences

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The elemental abundance distribution of stars encodes the history of the gas-phase abundance in the Milky Way. Without a large, unbiased sample of highly precise stellar ages, the exact timing and nature of this history must be inferred from the ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Galactic Chemical Evolution Models Favor an Extended Type Ia Supernova Delay-time Distribution

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) produce most of the Fe-peak elements in the Universe and therefore are a crucial ingredient in galactic chemical evolution models.
