On the Formation of Planets in the Milky Way’s Thick Disk

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Exoplanet demographic surveys have revealed that close-in (≲1 au) small planets orbiting stars in the Milky Way’s thick disk are ∼50% less abundant than those orbiting stars in the Galactic thin disk.

Planetary nebulae beyond the milky way - Historical overview [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Up to 10% of the total luminosity of a planetary nebula, ~500 L⊙, can be emitted in the dominant cooling line, [O iii] λ5007. This, coupled with the narrowness of the line (~15-25 km s-1), makes it extremely easy to detect PNe in external galaxies using ...

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Shiva and Shakti: Presumed Proto-Galactic Fragments in the Inner Milky Way

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Using Gaia Data Release 3 astrometry and spectroscopy, we study two new substructures in the orbit–metallicity space of the inner Milky Way: Shakti and Shiva.

Inhibition of cyclin‐dependent kinases 12/13 using CT7439 as a treatment for colorectal cancer with CDK12 upregulation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The proposed mechanism of action for the CDK12/13 inhibitor and cyclin K degrader, CT7439. CDK12/13 inhibition interrupts transcription elongation, leading to increased DNA damage that results in cell death. This agent is a potentially novel treatment option for patients with colorectal cancer. Created in BioRender. Cyclin‐dependent kinase (CDK) 12 and

A Novel Approach to Identifying Substructures through Analysis of Metallicity Distribution Functions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a new method for identifying Galactic halo substructures accreted from dwarf galaxies by combining metallicity distribution functions (MDFs) with orbital parameters.

A Bayesian Approach to the Vertical Structure of the Disk of the Milky Way

open access: yesThe Open Journal of Astrophysics, 2020
This work investigates the vertical profile of the stars in the disk of the Milky Way. The models investigated are of the form sech2/n(nz/(2H)) where, setting α = 2/n, the three functions of the sequence α= 0, 1, 2 correspond to exponential, sech, and ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

The origin of the Milky Way globular clusters

open access: yes, 2019
We present a cosmological zoom-in simulation of a Milky Way-like galaxy used to explore the formation and evolution of star clusters. We investigate in particular the origin of the bimodality observed in the colour and metallicity of globular clusters ...

SynthPop: A New Framework for Synthetic Milky Way Population Generation

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present SynthPop , a new open source, modular population synthesis Galactic modeling software to simulate catalogs of Milky Way stars along any sightline outward from the Sun. Motivated by a lack of flexibility in existing Galactic models, SynthPop is
