Evaluation of the genotoxicity of theobromine and caffeine

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 1987
Published data on the mutagenicity and genotoxicity of theobromine and caffeine were analysed by the Carcinogen Prediction and Battery Section (CPBS) method. In spite of some positive responses, these analyses did not predict for theobromine a potential for causing cancer by virtue of a genotoxic mechanism.

Theobromine kinetics and metabolic disposition

Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1983
Metabolism and kinetics of a single oral dose of 30 microCi 8-14C-theobromine with 10 mg/kg theobromine sodium acetate were studied in six healthy, nonmedicated, nonsmoking men after 14 days' abstention from all methylxanthine sources. Identification and quantitation of metabolites in plasma and urine both by HPLC and by thin-layer chromatography ...

Interaction of Theobromine with Sodium Benzoate

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1982
The interaction of theobromine with sodium benzoate was investigated by PMR spectroscopy. The interaction of theobromine with pentadeuterated benzoic acid (benzoic acid-d5) was examined in the same manner but to a lesser degree. Chemical shifts of theobromine protons were determined as a function of sodium benzoate concentration in deuterium oxide at ...

Theobromine and the Pharmacology of Cocoa

2010
The effects of theobromine in man are underresearched, possibly owing to the assumption that it is behaviourally inert. Toxicology research in animals may appear to provide alarming results, but these cannot be extrapolated to humans for a number of reasons. Domestic animals and animals used for racing competitions need to be guarded from chocolate and

Theobromine metabolism in man.

Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 1982
The effects of allopurinol on the plasma clearance and metabolism of theobromine have been investigated under multiple-dosing conditions. Allopurinol had no effect on the clearance of theobromine, indicating that the elimination of this compound is dependent on enzyme systems other than xanthine oxidase, presumably the hepatic mixed-function oxidases ...
