A short review on SSF – an interesting process option for ethanol production from lignocellulosic feedstocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
: Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) is one process option for production of ethanol from lignocellulose. The principal benefits of performing the enzymatic hydrolysis together with the fermentation, instead of in a separate step after ...

Stress Granule‐Associated ZmCTU2 Confers Thermotolerance in Maize via Coordinated Regulation of Proteostasis and ROS Homeostasis

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, Page 3371-3390, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The escalating global temperatures and intensifying heat stress events pose significant threats to maize productivity worldwide. Uncovering key thermotolerance genes and their functional mechanisms is thus critical for developing climate‐resilient crops.

Utilisation of wheat bran as a substrate for bioethanol production using recombinant cellulases and amylolytic yeast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Wheat bran, generated from the milling of wheat, represents a promising feedstock for the production of bioethanol. This substrate consists of three main components: starch, hemicellulose and cellulose.

Lily Transcription Factors LlPLATZ1 and LlMYB4 Orchestrate the Homeostasis of Heat Stress Responses via Antagonistic Regulation of LlHSF24

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, Page 3407-3425, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Heat stress significantly damages crop yield and quality. PLATZ (PLANT A/T‐RICH SEQUENCE‐AND ZINC‐BINDING PROTEIN) transcription factors play pivotal roles in plant growth, development, and environmental stress responses. While the functions of PLATZ members in response to drought and salt stress are well characterised, their roles in heat ...

Is thermotolerance of yeast dependent on trehalose accumulation?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1994
During heat stress, trehalose concentration increases in yeast cells in parallel to thermotolerance. This parallelism suggested that trehalose mediated thermotolerance. We show in this work that, under certain conditions, trehalose accumulation and increase in thermotolerance do not go in parallel.

Cellulases (CMCases) and polyphenol oxidases from thermophilic Bacillus spp [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In composting, organic matter is degraded by cellulases and ligninolytic enzymes at temperatures typically above 50 °C. This study isolated thermophilic microorganisms from a compost system that were then screened for cellulase and polyphenol oxidase ...
