Odd-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in thraustochytrids
Phytochemistry, 2011A series of unusual odd-chain fatty acids (OC-FA) were identified in two thraustochytrid strains, TC 01 and TC 04, isolated from waters off the south east coast of Tasmania, Australia. FA compositions were determined by capillary GC and GC-MS, with confirmation of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) structure performed by analysis of 4,4 ...

Lipid Characterization of Mangrove Thraustochytrid − Schizochytrium mangrovei
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007Lipid class composition and distribution of fatty acids within the lipid pool of microalga, Schizochytrium mangrovei FB3 harvested at the late exponential phase, was studied, with special emphasis on the distribution of docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6 n-3, DHA).

Extracellular Enzymes Produced by Marine Eukaryotes, Thraustochytrids
Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2009Extracellular enzymes produced by six strains of thraustochytrids, Thraustochytrium, Schizochytrium, and Aurantiochytrium, were investigated. These strains produced 5 to 8 kinds of the extracellular enzymes, depending on the species. Only the genus Thraustochytrium produced amylase.

Physiological Studies of Subtropical Mangrove Thraustochytrids
Botanica Marina, 2002Six thraustochytrids (Schizochytrium sp. KF-1, Schizochytrium mangrovei KF-2, KF-7, KF-12, Thraustochytrium striatum KF-9 and Ulkenia KF-13), isolated from fallen, senescent leaves of the mangrove tree Kandelia candel in Hong Kong, were identified and characterised in pine pollen seawater culture.

Identification of Thraustochytrids from Mangrove Forest of Tidung Island, Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta
JURNAL BIOLOGI TROPISThrautochytrids are often called heterotrophic microalgae that have a lot of omega-3 docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA. These microbes are found in many mangrove forest areas, including Indonesia, which has the biggest mangrove forests in the world. Indonesia

Thraustochytrid protists in Antarctic fast ice?
Antarctic Science, 1993Sea ice provides a habitat for a conspicuous and productive assemblage of autotrophic microalgae and for heterotrophs ranging from bacteria to vertebrates (Horner 1990, Garrison 1991). With the exception of a reference to chytridiaceous fungi that were found infecting Arctic ice diatoms (Horner 1977) and a note in a cruise report (Schnack-Schiel 1987 ...

Thraustochytrids and Algae as Sustainable Sources of Long-Chain Omega-3 Fatty Acids for Aquafeeds
SustainabilityThere is limited ability to biosynthesize long-chain omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA and DHA in food webs leading to humans. Seafood is the key source of ω3 LC-PUFA, with aquaculture expected to meet rising global demand; however, marine fish have a high
