Metabolomics analysis reveals changes related to pseudocyst formation induced by iron depletion in Trichomonas vaginalis

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2023
Background Iron is an essential element for cellular functions, such as energy metabolism. Trichomonas vaginalis, a human urogenital tract pathogen, is capable of surviving in the environment without sufficient iron supplementation.

Metabolic engineering of the 2-ketobutyrate biosynthetic pathway for 1-propanol production in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2018
Background To produce 1-propanol as a potential biofuel, metabolic engineering of microorganisms, such as E. coli, has been studied. However, 1-propanol production using metabolically engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which has an amazing ability to ...

Composition and Functional Capacity of Gut Microbes are Associated with Arterial Stiffness: A Prospective Study

open access: yesCardiology Discovery, 2023
Objective:. Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular disease. Microbial diversity in the gut has been shown to be associated inversely with arterial stiffness in Caucasian populations.

Inducibility and some properties of the threonine dehydratase of sheep liver [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 1974
The threonine dehydratase extracted from sheep liver is in an essentially inactive form, referred to here as the precursor, but can be activated by incubation at high temperature in alkaline solution. A method for purification of the activated enzyme to a state approaching homogeneity has been devised.

Comparative protein analysis of two maize genotypes with contrasting tolerance to low temperature

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2023
Background Low temperature (LT) stress is one of the major environmental stress factors affecting the growth and yield of maize (Zea mays L.). Hence, it is important to unravel the molecular mechanisms behind LT stress tolerance to improve molecular ...

An Unexpected Route to an Essential Cofactor: Escherichia coli Relies on Threonine for Thiamine Biosynthesis

open access: yesmBio, 2016
Metabolism consists of biochemical reactions that are combined to generate a robust metabolic network that can respond to perturbations and also adapt to changing environmental conditions.

Requirements for induction of the biodegradative threonine dehydratase in Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1977
Synthesis of the biodegradative L-threonine dehydratase in Escherichia coli, Crookes strain, was prevented by dissolved oxygen concentrations of 6 micrometer or greater. This effect was shown to be exerted solely on synthesis, rather than being the result of enzyme inactivation in vivo.

Can glycine be transformed into threonine at nonketonic hyperglycinemia?

open access: yesСибирский научный медицинский журнал
In the forties of the XX century, it was stated by Rose what amino acids are essential that is they are not synthesized in the organism of man and animals if they cannot be found in food.

RidA Proteins Prevent Metabolic Damage Inflicted by PLP-Dependent Dehydratases in All Domains of Life

open access: yesmBio, 2013
Pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP) is a coenzyme synthesized by all forms of life. Relevant to the work reported here is the mechanism of the PLP-dependent threonine/serine dehydratases, which generate reactive enamine/imine intermediates that are converted to

Minor Threonine Dehydratase Encoded Within the Threonine Synthetic Region of Bacillus subtilis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1971
Challenging auxotrophs on metabolites that are precursors of a biosynthetic step involving a mutated enzyme has revealed a new class of suppressor mutations which act by derepressing a minor enzyme activity not normally detected in the wild-type strain.
